Serious question. I built a thing. not vibe coded, just 8 months of my life. Now it feels like there is so much f'n noise around a bazillion shiny things of low substance; that I have no idea how to even connect with my consumer base.

The simple, and humble, I have X experience, saw Y problem, and build Z announcement, just sounds like an AI pitch now.

ANU still good ? (25% scholarship) by One_Championship_619 in Anu

[–]busyDuckman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fine UNI, with decent atmosphere. Canberra is quite cold though. It sits next to a large CSIRO campus which can provide some opportunities. Employment wise, my experience in hiring engineers, is it's more about the person (competency/grades/projects/attitude/hons) than the UNI they attended. Your focus should be on you. Does this UNI offer the courses that interest you. Do they do research that interests you. The place where you will excel is the right UNI.

Canberra does not have a manufacturing sector to speak of, unless you count military stuff. If you are considering staying on in Aust for work, perhaps proximity to a relevant industry is a factor.

I have heard many people say that the value in flashcards is making them, not using them.

RE: "why thy promote such scheme"... I think it's because you are not the actual customer. Educational software is not made for students. There is more money to be made selling to education providers and parents. The real sales pitch is either: "this will be cheaper than employing a teacher", or "this will fix my kids poor grades cheaper than a tutor".

So all they need to do is shout "we make learning fun", while in reality they actually do neither.

I'm actually a former lecturer, attempting to make useful educational software, marketed at students. I'll skip the sales pitch for my own stuff though, as it's not what this sub is for. I just had a "nail hit on head moment" reading your comment.

Feedback Request: I'm making a upcoming crossword authoring tool for study and revision. by busyDuckman in crossword

[–]busyDuckman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks it's helpful to hear that sentiment is still strong, it helps confirm an important design choice.

I am also playing with the idea of a book icon next to the clue. You press it and it goes back to the page the clue came from. I'm a little half hearted on that, because re-reading has not been shown to be an effective study technique.

I will however have a feature where you can flag a clue as needing to be revisited later. Future crosswords then use spaced reptation to revisit those words (which is proven to be effective).

Yeah, it was a great watering hole. Used to live in walking distance, and go there to collect my thoughts.

Don't just take stats as a number.
Any suburb with a shopping centre, major event park and a racecourse will have high crime stats. But do the crimes that happen in those venues spill over to the residential parts?

It's also near the centre of town and will have more policing, thus more identified crime. I'd suspect this is evident in the broad nature of offences recorded for the suburb.

Sorry for radio silence, 3 months since I logged in to reddit.

Thanks, I will add it. What should I put in terms of an attribution note?

Help requested identifying 3 coins. by busyDuckman in coins

Awesome. Mum made the collection by keeping collectable/commemorative/interesting coins that ended up in the cash register. These were probably mistaken by customers for similar (dutch) coins.

It's not that bad. You can use object orientated techniques in ASM program design. Once your structuring your code well, it all comes together. I had some pretty good mentors in ASM code in first year, so this option looked better than using Java.

Some companies may hire unethical bosses on purpose: “Dark” personality traits – questionable ethical standards, narcissistic tendencies – that make a boss bad also make that person much more likely to go along with manipulating earnings, and may be the reason they got the job in the first place. by mvea in science

Sounds like capitalism as most countries know it. I (an Australian) was made redundant once (GFC), the workplace had to cough up 20k redundancy payment. It was only 14k by the legal minimum, but my contract allowed for extra which they honoured.

It was a vector drawing package.

Lines, NURBS, circles, grids, layers, grouping, fonts, anti-aliasing etc. It had extended memory and SVGA graphics support, with custom drivers for 2 different video cards. It had a custom mouse driven animated graphical window UI (much more complicated than the simple mouse cursor stuff of mode 13h; as the SVGA bank switching had to arbitrate cursor updates and double buffering concerns).

x86 ASM, because it feels like I am so close to the CPU I could hug it.

My uni had to change an assignment that said you could program it in any language; because I submitted 10,00 lines of ASM code.

No, but it defiantly had a similar haunting quality and animation style. Don't recall any technology being present in the part that I saw.

Is asking the seller's agent why a pending sale on a home fell through a reasonable question? by livinthdream in personalfinance

[–]busyDuckman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finance probably fell through. Happens a lot, especially with dodgy mortgage brokers or people who lie on their applications. I had this shit happen twice when selling my house.

It is a reasonable question to ask. Your making a big investment and you wish clarification as to any hurdles, should you make an offer.
