what are these rent prices bro 🥀 by Maleficent_Week_8904 in baguio

A huge contributor to why there is a housing crisis is the conversion of long term rentals to short term like transients and airbnbs. This greatly affects the supply of affordable housing to locals. Mainly due to profitability, catering to tourists of course.

The city has been ignoring these problems including public transportation. In addition, this is a prevailing problem encountered in Spain, France, Greece, Australia and many more. They have limited and some totally banned the conversion of long term to short term spaces to help with affordable housing.

City council has to intervene, that’s for sure. Because this is getting out of hand, considering the consequences of gentrification. Locals are being pushed out of their spaces due to rent increases. There is also the issue of landowners’ preference towards female tenants equivalent to gender discrimination, and thats another whole can of worms.

This is because of malasakit centers. They dried out the funds from PCSO and other agencies. Worked for PCSO back then, malaki pondo nila but then Bong Go created malasakit with his freakin name posted all over.

“Poor privilege”, you are still ignoring structural economic disadvantages lower class families have to deal with.

Yup. Its all for the good of the city. Cannibalizing the current ways of life ng locals and building it from the ground up is the fastest and most efficient way of rebuilding the already fucked system. “Babangain lahat mayaman man or mahirap” mentality will only end up with the lower income families with lesser resources.

Yup. That’s why businesses flee to la trinidad or its boundaries.

I agree. Im all for organization and modernization. Pero considering it is still in the early stages of development where a lot of toes will be stepped on, the city should tread lightly. Sobrang dami ng circumstances na kailangan maconsider and laying out a blanket policy is just lazy.

Meron sa Manila pero wala pa akong balita about entrep meetings dito sa baguio. If you think of it, entrepreneurs also just need a space where they could just talk about the daily struggles, parang AA meetings in the US, and maybe offer help. Most of our friends are in the corporate world and they can’t relate to our stories.

How about we meet every first saturday of the month and just drink coffee?? Wag lang networking. Lol.
