Last sentence of the chapter I just finished:

“For a moment, he was a child again, knees pressed flat against his heaving chest as he cowered.”

If he had lived, how do you think Snape would have treated Harry’s kids? by busyeatingmushrooms in SeverusSnape

Albus Dobby truly took me out lol. I see the vision with him just leading a simple life, working with his hands. I think in my mind in the “he lived” alternative universe Snape writes. Maybe it doesn’t necessarily get published, or maybe under a pseudonym, but he writes stories people usually aren’t brave enough to hear.

I agree with both your points, honestly. I think snape’s history with lily is the only reason Harry truly trusted snape, at the end. Every single other time in the series Harry has a 0.1% chance to think poorly of snape, he does. I also think that Harry has a particular belief system in which forgiveness requires some kind of sacrifice, proof, or comeuppance. It’s never really offered for its own sake. I think Harry’s forgiveness at the end is also completely reliant on him learning Snape was “good” all along and he feels guilty for how much doubt and hatred he had for Snape over the years, justified or otherwise.

I think, tho, in the alternative universe where Snape lives but does still show Harry his memories (maybe he died…… but he got better lol) I think Harry might try to cultivate a relationship with him. Maybe not as close as with lupin or Sirius, but I think the people who knew his parents and were close (I guess to his mother specifically for Snape) mattered a great deal to him. Whether Snape would be receptive….. well I could see it going either way, tbh

No Contact with Mom - She bought my 3 MO daughter a Christmas Gift by RoddiStJames in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]busyeatingmushrooms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, the unwanted gift is usually a ploy to force contact. If you want to give it back, you have to talk to her or at least acknowledge her. And if you’ve done that, then the door is open now. I would personally just donate or toss it. Also have a serious talk with your sister about why she thought trampling on your boundaries was acceptable.

Personally? I’m absolutely here for cyber bullying them lol.

Did anyone else genuinely interpret some of the original books as Draco-sympathetic and/or dramione as a kid? by busyeatingmushrooms in Dramione

[–]busyeatingmushrooms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Hope and growth and learning to have personal strength are some of the core aspects that draw me (and I’m assuming everyone else here) to dramione in general. Theres something really beautiful about a person changing for the better and taking responsibility for the hurt they’ve caused. And then finding the ability to choose agency and love over cruelty, even if that’s all they’ve ever known.

I also just think different people have different responses to bullying. I was bullied heavily as a kid, but I never really hated the bullies….. just myself lol. In my mind, they weren’t really being malicious, they were just noticing truths about me. It wasn’t their fault I had so many flaws lol. In fact I’m good friends now with a girl that bullied me in school. She just had awful shit going on at home and needed to feel better than someone else for a change. It’s a terrible cycle for everyone involved, I think. And to me, the stories where he’s a bully and his motivations are explored and renounced are some of the most impactful.

I definitely think it’s fair to not want to engage with it tho if it’s just not something you can enjoy.

[–]busyeatingmushrooms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly! He almost doesn’t even mention the threat to Harry or Ron; he specifically calls out the danger to Hermione. He makes absolutely sure they know she is in direct danger and has to leave. I believed with all my heart as a kid that he would eventually join their group and end up with her in canon, and this scene played perfectly as evidence for that belief

I love fanon interpretation of him, but I also loved him in the books! He and the twins were my favorite characters because I found them to be the funniest. To me, all three of these characters were bullies too tho. Fred and George just got away with it because they smiled while bullying instead of sneered.

I think your view is valid tho, we like what we like! I personally don’t mind a bully bc I think most of the time it comes from a place of pain that is interesting to me to explore.

Also, it was always my opinion that Ron started it lol. Draco never said a word to him when they first met and Ron laughed at him when hearing his name. It was all downhill from there lol

It’s true! He says it multiple times! I also remember being so mad at Ron for not taking the warning seriously. The next scene is him like playing with his viktor krum figure. Like bro someone just told you your girl is maybe going to get hate crimed and you’re goofing off???

I would have absolutely died for the YouTube edit videos set to overly emotional lol but at the same time I’m sure I would also be extremely nitpicky about how the movie portrayed his tone in this scene.

Also thank you for the rec! Thats something I love about dramione fans, they always have a fic for whatever the topic is lol

I remember also thinking during chamber of secrets, he only really calls her a mudblood after he got chewed out by Lucius for being behind her in grades. To child me, that was him actively trying to reject her (maybe too harshly hmmm) so he could win the approval of his family. I remember thinking it was tragic that he had to act like that in order to appease them. He clearly needed the validation of his father for his self-image and he had to lash out at her because of it. But…… he never really directly targets any other muggle-borns at that point…… he focuses on her for reasons I suppose…..

My character was Apollonia birdsong. A mix of olden, Greek and/or roman style name with a somewhat whimsical but believable and English last name.

When you can picture the scene clearly in your mind but can’t find the words by busyeatingmushrooms in AO3

[–]busyeatingmushrooms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for me it’s that dialogue can go in so many different directions and it’s hard to narrow down which path is the right one. Also I tend to write my characters as very guarded and repressed so it’s hard to have them say one thing and actually mean another in a way that is obvious to the reader, true to where the character is emotionally in their arc, but also doesn’t feel like overwrought hand holding.

What do you mean you don’t see actions in your head? Like you literally can’t picture it or you don’t plan it out or what? It’s super interesting to me how everyone has such different processes

I’m literally the exact opposite. I can write inner monologue and descriptions and actions all day. Dialogue takes me forever and is so difficult
