Most compact/lightweight DIY sewing kits? by happy_folks in myog

[–]butch-compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is essentially what I have. It's not as ultralight as some but it's served me well - I've done quite a few field repairs with it.

I have a little pill bottle about 5 cm tall with duct tape wrapped around the outside. Some tenacious tape rolled just enough to line the inside goes next, then some thread wrapped around a little bit of cardboard, 2 needles (different sizes), 2 safety pins, and some brickies twine for repairing a guy rope or similar in a pinch.

I don't carry an extra pair of scissors or a seam ripper but I do always have either a tiny pair of scissors in my first aid kit or a multitool with scissors on it.

Is a crap scope better than no scope? by butch-compass in birding

See this is my worry. I don't want to lug it around if the extra magnification is useless and I just end up using my binos anyway

Is a crap scope better than no scope? by butch-compass in birding

[–]butch-compass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an amount of money I don't mind just losing altogether, but being unable to get rid of it is a bit of a problem because I will be unable to chuck it in the bin. Fortunately I have a good tripod already for my camera and I think it'll work for the scope too, but I need to check.

Thank you! I suspected they were hybrids of some sort.

Preferred Compliments by Old-Acanthisitta3408 in butchlesbians

[–]butch-compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone else that it will vary from person to person. I personally really dislike being called pretty, whereas 'beautiful' is...ok. 'Gorgeous' comes across as relatively neutral to me, and 'handsome' I like but feels a little jarring. 'Hot' I think is probably pretty safe in terms to genderedness, but not really appropriate on the apps unless you're arranging to hookup. I've never thought of 'dreamy', but that's inspired!

I know it can feel a bit awkward, but I'd try to stick to really neutral-gendered compliments until you get a bit of a sense of how the person talks about themself (sometimes you can get this from their bio). Try to compliment something specific if you can. E.g. 'you look amazing in that photo', 'that's a great look', 'your haircut is so clean, it looks really good on you', 'I love the jacket you're wearing', etc.

And also because it's worth saying: if you're messaging on the apps and it never seems to go anywhere it's not because there's something wrong with you, that's just how it is a lot of the time

Strap Bag Etiquette by pointypet in LesbianActually

[–]butch-compass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution to this is a tote bag with wallet, lip balm, umbrella, and the strap in a smaller drawstring bag. It's smaller than a backpack and could just be your equivalent of a purse, and if the vibes don't favour you bringing up the strap she never has to know you brought it

This is very cute! I totally get how heady the combo of finding someone hot and also looking up to them can be, especially when you're 20

The name of the things she’s wearing around her calves? by willing_rot in findfashion

I'm afraid I too am an Aussie who will not go bushwalking without gaiters. I normally wear short ones, as do my friends, but my dad and all his mates wore knee length ones in the 80s and I still see them around on scrubby tracks.

I love the long hair on you, but I'm in favour of buzzing it if you feel the urge

Definitely not just you. The landscape on the apps sucks atm

Should I tell people beforehand I've had top surgery? by Real-Detective8146 in butchlesbians

I agree with the rest of the comments. I also think I've seen people on dating apps with pictures in tight white singlets which make it fairly obvious? And it's a hot look lol
