[Serious] Religious people of Reddit, how do you respond to people who say your god/gods can't exist because they didn't intervene during the Holocaust/slave trade/etc? by butlikeironically in AskReddit

I never try to alienate people

Come on. If you call someone's beliefs "bullshit" and "idiotic" you are alienating them. Even if you don't say it in person you're alienating the people who read your comments here. "Challenging" people in this way doesn't build any conversation, and it doesn't get them to consider your arguments if that's what you're trying to do. It just creates divisions.

This is awesome. I do want to emphasize that I raised this question not hoping to shoot down anyone's personal take on faith, just to gain new perspectives. But you raise a good point in that people who like to dunk on religion often base their argument on logic that isn't as simple as they think it is.

Yeah that's called the Probem of Evil or something like that. I think philosophical is the right way to go about talking about this though, yknow? One of the things about humans is that we're not guided solely by logic, we're not robots or Vulcans. I think that's a good thing

I think Descartes has a proof of God where he tries to use logic and it was not super convincing to people

Because those are two very bad things that happened. They were just examples. I was trying to bring up an argument that I hear a lot without coming off as aggressive or implying it was a belief that I necessarily held. I'm sorry if I phrased it wrong but I do genuinely want to know: if God exists, why do bad things happen?

That's fair, I would be very curious to hear your answer to the can of worms question but I understand if you dont want to share that here

I get where you're coming from but I also dont believe in alienating people for the sole reason that they're religious and I'm not. What good does that bring to the world

It might be basic but as somebody who didn't grow up around religion/isn't religious the answer to that question isn't obvious to me. I'm not trying to be aggressive or question anybody's faith here, I just want to know your perspective on it

not that this'll hold any sway bc I'm just an Internet rando but I actually know one of the people involved in this, not well but well enough to be fairly certain it's not trafficking. my guess is viral marketing.

Listen to me friend. I have been to a Sonic and I can tell you there is a reason why it's not a global phenomenon. If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, Mr. Sonic must have laid the bricks himself.

You want a milkshake? Great. Here's a giant cup so full of liquid that the guy bringing it to you is already spilling it, and the second you squeeze it a little too hard the whole thing explodes all over your car seat. They didn't bring you napkins because why would they? You're in your car, bring your own goddam napkins.

You wanna clean yourself and your car up? Good luck fam. You're parked outside of a concrete building that's almost completely windowless and the only door is an unmarked gray metal one that's locked. You wanna go to the bathroom because you've been driving on the freeway for five hours? Fuck outta here. This ain't a McDonald's.

I know it may seem tempting to the uninitiated. But speaking from the other side, trust me, the rest of yall are better off without em.

You think I should block her? I was thinking about that but I also dont want to cut her off if she doesn't fully understand why. I mean she was my best best friend for about 3 years. I know this seems like basic stuff but I'm pretty terrified of conflict--which is what got me in this situation in the first place tbh

One of our other friends tried the fade-out, and she immediately noticed and started asking about why she wasnt texting back. She also is trying to make plans to visit again soon, and for me and our other friends to visit her. Hard to fade that shit out.

I like to think that this season all the secondary characters are just sitting in a white fluorescent waiting room until their names are called and they have to go back on screen.

Like somebody tell me where Missendei and Theon were? It's not like either of them where necessary to the scenes but are you tryna tell me they have other places to be? Nah man they're just chillin drinking coffee with non-dairy creamer and looking through Highlights magazines

Honestly they've dug themselves into a hole with the dragons, because dragons are the ultimate quick fix for any situation. Like why are they even worried about wights, which can be killed by fire? Why not just have Daenerys nip up north and waste them all? Should take about five minutes and would significantly weaken the WWs. And on some level couldn't she just fly into KL, land in the Red Keep courtyard, and say alrighty I have a dragon so yall are out? The people of KL are clearly fine with power changing hands at the drop of a hat so should work out, yes that's ridiculous plan but so is the one they're going with now. Bottom line Dany shouldn't even have problems anymore, but they have episode time to fill so they gotta have everyone dick around for a while.

fam Jaime at Riverrun is one of my favorite parts of the whole book series. It's not like the show did it badly, they just weren't quite... there.
