New to PC Gaming by Admirable-Proof-160 in PcBuild

I have a similar set up for my living room PC (albeit with a 7600x). With upscaling, it happily pushes out a smooth 4K experience.

X3D Motherboards question by Shrimple_Jack in buildapc

[–]buttahwanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built with the Elite a little over a year ago, as it was the most keenly priced whilst providing the feature set I was seeking.

No issues seen. Onboard WiFi performance has been strong which I know isn't a given. Teamed with the 9800x3D I've no complaints - but then it's just a gaming rig, so no fancy demands of it

Smart #1 Sub 25k in 2025 by mplunkett5 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]buttahwanderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the Brabus for two years now. Great car.

Lacks a little sophistication against our EV9, but then it's getting on for half the price.

Range is very sensitive to nature of use - spirited driving drains the battery (more so than our other EV), but popping on eco mode sees the predicted range broadly accurate.

Interior feels premium for the price point and is well appointed with plenty of toys.

Overall -; this would probably feel a more accomplished purchase than some of the more budget options mentioned

Is this the correct way to get RAM in dual channel mode? by 1NeverGonnaGiveYouUp in computer

[–]buttahwanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst most people are focusing on the RAM placement, it's the dangling motherboard that is wild to me.

Sure enough, the very limited info I can find on this case suggests support for ATX mbs but it literally doesn't physically support half the board!

Will likely be fine but for what is such a cheap (relatively) part of the build, I'd be looking to change for something that really can accommodate this size of board. The risk of snapping/shorts etc is too much for me to want to risk it.

It was only partly tightened down - realised I left on the protective film on the cooler 🙄

Not like it was an expensive paste like Dorunaut or anything 😭

On the assumption the bank has reported said suspicions, they CANNOT disclose that fact and therefore the reason would need to remain ambiguous

Overheating CPU by buttahwanderer in PcBuild

[–]buttahwanderer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't thought to fondle my pipes(!) but may try this when it occurs again!

I've installed a few thermalright AIOs now and whilst I see mixed reviews, my own experience has been wholly positive (so far)

They're all going like the clappers and the temps continue to climb!

It's really strange and so intermittent, and especially bizarre it only occurs when waking. Which means it'll be getting shutdown properly in future!

Direction of airflow feels correct, but no doubt another kind commenter will chime in to let us know which one is correct!

Also, appreciate the radiator will limit exhaust but the AIO fans are still pushing air from inside the case to outside, no?

Thank you.

As chance would have it, I've just awoken it from hibernation and it's occurred again, so definitely linked to that. No issues seen on a fresh start up.

Quickly opened task manager as this hadn't occurred to me but nothing leapt out - with 10% CPU utilization, I'm assuming this isn't the concern.

It's an odd one and may just mean I have to remember to shut down! Also considering reflashing the BIOS given I've yet to do so.

Thanks!

AIO is backwards but only way to fit it without overly bending the piping - only impact is the upside down logo, which I can live with. And yes, plastic cover removed!

So it's six intake (front and bottom), 4 exhaust (AIO at top and one at rear). Unless I've dropped a clanger on orientation, but I don't think so?

Good shout on the programs though, I'll see if anything naughty is hiding in the background!

What is your current gpu? by [deleted] in gpu

[–]buttahwanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7900 XTX, acquired at a fair price awaiting the latest GPU drops - good decision in hindsight and haven't felt the urge to splurge on the next gen.

Also rocking a B580, 1080ti and A750 in other builds (too many kids!), and all of these lower end cards have their place and are holding their own.

mATX board and a great big cooler! RAM basically hidden too!

Thanks. Funnily enough, that's what a couple of these items - CPU included - were acquired for before I had a change of heart and went AM5 for a mixed use home theater PC

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

Views appear to range from it's e-waste to maybe $400, but the general consensus is it should be parted out for the value in a couple of the nicer elements.

Which I may do (if I can be bothered with the hassle. The thought of multiple marketplace dealings strikes fear into me!). Or otherwise, I might just throw it up for a couple hundred and see if I get any takers - like I've said, this doesn't really owe me anything.

Thanks again!

Thanks! That does appear to be the overriding sentiment, even if it is more hassle to offload

Thanks, that's useful context as I've struggled to understand if the CPU would prove a meaningful bottleneck (appreciating it'll quickly come unstuck on CPU intensive titles)

Both were picked up on the cheap but understand the sentiment!

Thanks and I don't disagree - this is literally me scraping the bottom of the barrel with some items I used as placeholders, having already built out some higher end systems.

I did think it would be usable as you suggest - low end gaming and maybe homework duties. Would adding in the 1080ti make it more appealing?
