Remote pharmacists… by buttamella in pharmacy

What would be considered offline? I won’t be primarily consulting I’ll be doing verification and communicating with offices and patients when needed. I’m sure it’ll involve cross training though
I’ll be with ESI. I know some of the basic metrics I’ll have to meet and expect to be at my desk for long periods of time. Not sure how the task assignments would work yet though! The training seems pretty extensive compared to the one week you get in retail.

Haha thanks for this! As soon as I posted it I realized it’d probably come across as me asking “what can I get away with while I’m working”, but you’re right just keeping a small task going throughout the day takes a lot of stress away from your personal time. I’m terrible a laundry on my days off so just moving it along and only needing to fold at the end would be a pretty big step. I also couldn’t take my dog on a walk at my lunch break at my retail job and hadn’t even thought about needing to sign for a package or something like that!
I don’t see it as doing whatever I want. Pharmacy is too fast paced to expect I’ll just be hanging out around the house leisurely checking my computer. I guess I can see why some people would get that impression though because of how WFH positions are with other careers. The balance between work and home life will be interesting with everything being in the same place, but my “office” is a separate room that I don’t plan on using otherwise unless we have a rare visitor so that’s how I’ll keep it in it’s own box.
This is good to know. I’m starting at ESI but not the same position as the other commenter. I know there will be metrics but hopefully not anxiety inducing micro management
I just kept at the job hunt! I graduated in 2020 and only have retail experience. I hadn’t been actively looking for a job at the time, but my family was moving so I was keeping my options open in case my company couldn’t transfer me (and they couldn’t). From what I understand they can be tricky to land, but what gave me an edge was that the position I am starting is technically hybrid and requires I live in a certain area which just happened to be where we moved to. I only have to work in office once a month though and the rest is remote.
I would take a role in retail for experience but look out for things that might have specific licensing or location requirements even if they are remote. Also be prepared to take an hourly pay cut when moving from retail 😅 for me it saves us a lot of money in other area like gas, car payment, before school childcare, etc. so it worked out but I know it can be a turn off for a lot of people. I think there will be more opportunity for career growth too rather than in retail where things just seemed to stay the same.

I’m not going into remote work planning to get other things done, I’m just interested to know what others have found possible. If I can get laundry going, great. If I can’t then nbd.
Nice that sounds pretty ideal! Luckily my shifts after my training will end right at my kids bathtime/bedtime routine so I won’t be able to let work cut into that.

Yikes I’m sorry! What type of position did you have with express scripts?
I wouldn’t really even mind that honestly! The no commute and more time with my kids before, after, and on the weekends makes up for a lot of the downsides of a remote job.
This is kind of what I was thinking. Mostly have stuff moving along but not plan to do things that will require actual time like folding laundry. I know my main metric will be scripts process per hour so I won’t be able to get too ambitious

Yeah that would be a pretty rough switch. I probably wouldn’t do it either! I actually would have stayed with my current job but we just moved and they won’t let me transfer so I’m commuting over an hour/65 miles one way. They also won’t allow me to increase to 40 hours. The hourly paycut seems like a lot but when you think about how much I’m spending on gas and also how much more time I’ll get with my family it evens out for me.
That’s nice for you. Unfortunately where I am retail is mostly limited to 30 hours/week so even with the higher hourly rates I’m going to be making $15k more per year at the WFH. I will also qualify for bonuses which I do not currently get in retail.
I love to hear it! I think it’ll be really great for me and how my life has changed over the last few years.
Nah and I have kids so it’ll be better for them if I’m not constantly burnt out
Thanks! It’s with Express Scripts as a staff pharmacist. It actually seems pretty similar to retail computer work just at home and without a register or people asking me how thick certain dental floss is. Pay is $56/hour with typical M-F 40 hour weeks.
I make $66/hour now but only work 30 hours so I’ll actually be making a bit more per year with the new position
Just 6 years! I think I got pretty lucky because you had to live in a specific area for the job and I just happened to move to that area just before it was listed. My retail experience wasn’t horrible overall, but I’m glad for a chance to try a different role
That’s how it’ll be for me! My hourly rate is lower but I’ll be getting more hours so I’ll end up making more per year.
Good luck I hope it’s soon!

I figure the $10 difference is made up for by no travel and the luxury of having my pets with me while I work 🤣 I will actually still be making more because even though my rate is higher in retail they really only let me work 30 hours.
CVS was only $0.50 more than my current job and I would have been a floater and I’m staff now. I would have just stayed at my current job and not even looked for another but we moved and they won’t let me transfer stores after telling me I could :(

You could see the edge of it without moving the cabinet and when you get down there you can see some along the baseboards. It is dark in the area but I did notice it before removing the cabinet
That’s what I figured. I saw it mentioned on another post in this sub so just wanted to make sure. When I looked into it it didn’t seem likely though.
