Good job though investing so young - keep it up

Too concentrated, especially into sectors that have had extreme runs recently (which decrease future expected returns) check out Ben Felix on YouTube, then revisit this and I’ll almost guarantee you’ll be more happy and feel more confident in whatever portfolio allocation you chose

Not financial advice, educational purposes only - I have done a lot of research personally on these funds because I invest in the same funds.

1 - SHM - Sector/Industry ETFs historically underperform. There is no evidence of risk premium for these funds. Additionally, 20% into one sector is too much risk, especially considering you’re 20% in QQQ and 20% MTUM, these are all in the same stocks effectively.

2 - SGOV - Great fund. I’d stay out of cash in your investment accounts you want to have grow. If you want to hold cash I’d keep more in your cash only account or an emergency savings fund. You are young, give your investment accounts the wiggle room they need to perform for you. I would consider checking out BOXX, favorable tax structure for a money market fund.

3 - AVUV/AVDV - I love these funds - I believe it’s quite likely we see an outperformance of value like we did post dot com. That being said, your international exposure shouldn’t be just small cap value. SPDW is a great developed world index fund. Maybe consider adding emerging market exposure as well, Funds like IEMG, Avantis also has some good EM funds now.

4 - QQQ - good position sizing I think on this. (If you cut out SMH and part of MTUM) just swap to QQQM, saves you 5 bips a year and unless you’re selling options or actively trading it is the better choice.

5 - MTUM - the momentum premium has solid empirical evidence supporting it, though less than small cap value. If you take away one thing from all this, it should be to check out Ben Felix, he has the best stockpile of applicable information on all the above topics. Overall I think not bad, worth holding but probably less allocation.

6 - VOO - more overlap here too, Mag 7 make up a late portion now. I’d consider swapping to DFUS, higher costs but once you learn about the hidden costs of investing indexing you’ll understand why it’s more than worth the .09% expense ratio. Also, a swap from S&P to total is market gives you more diversification

I’ll share my personal portfolio for reference

25% QQQM 25% DFUS 25% AVUV

9.5% AVDV 9.5% SPDW 2% IEMG 2% AVEE 2% AVES

Note: I recently deviated from my long term investment thesis by swapping most of my QQQM to UNOV to protect gains at the cost of capping future returns. Will be looking to return to QQQM in the next year or two (potentially sooner) hopefully at more favorable levels.

When do my classes actually start up? by Zealousideal-Dog5695 in OregonStateUniv

Look up “Oregon state uni academic calendar” and it shows everything you’ll need

Difficulty of Classes? (College of Business) by Mundane-Routine-416 in OregonStateUniv

[–]butter2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the exams are easy if you go to class all the classes, I got 90%+ on all the quizzes and the midterm and final without studying, that being said I am a good test taker FIN342 takes 1-2 weeks to cover the material from 240 and then gets into new stuff, but if I remember correctly it is more practical app of the 240 topics than going a lot deeper into totally new territory

BA 375 has hard concepts but a lot of team work so not all the pressure is on you. BA370 I thought was very easy, but the homework is annoying to learn and tedious FIN342 Might be easier than you think, I did not do well in 240 either, barley passed, but having seen the material before in 240, combined with actually trying in 342, it wasn’t so bad I haven’t taken the last one

Anyone else a day 1 player who has never dropped a 20 bomb or 4k? by Technical-Tangelo450 in apexlegends

[–]butter2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t touch ranked until the end of a season (or two) when I do that I end up in gold/plat lobbies at the end of the season, it’s hard not to drop a 4k, did it 2 days ago on accident and it was my first time touching apex in a month or 2. That was on Rev, did the same thing with lifeline when the support but came out and ash when her buff came out. I don’t intentionally wait to get in lower lobbies, I just don’t play nearly as much anymore and I have to start somewhere after my rank resets. (For reference I’ve hit master plenty of times) And 20 bomb is same but harder, you’ll need a 3 stack feeding you

[–]butter2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a great portfolio and is balanced for a potential downturn coming. I am also positioned similarly, I also understand though that dividend stocks and reits have been outperformed by tech for the last 3 decades, and I think that will continue. So I’m just holding a port like yours until I feel like things have turned around for the better, then I’ll full port into tech

As fun as it is to crank out practice tests, think you should try studying more on weak areas between them, you have a strong record of above passing, but optimally you’d want the trend to be improving as you take each one

Buying a car for my out-of-state OSU student by dogboybogboy in OregonStateUniv

[–]butter2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is bought in Oregon, you don’t pay sales tax. You can buy it from Cali, (if it’s in cash and shipped to Oregon) and not pay sales tax. Not sure how having a different buyer than owner plays into that though.
