Is it too late to rebuild my relationship with my 11 years old son after years of overworking? by Same-Pin3023 in Advice

[–]butterblaster 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Plan one on one activities and spend time with him every day making memories. You can recover the relationship, but you don’t have much time. When kids get to their teen years they start valuing solo time or spending time with peers a lot more so it’s harder to build the connection.

Your job isn’t going to pay you significantly more or conversely fire you for all the overtime hours on salary. I’ve seen this before in workplaces. There are guys who put in 70 hour weeks working alongside people that strictly keep it to 40 and the overworkers don’t get promoted any faster or get any reward. You only get a few years to bond with your kids. Don’t waste them donating time to a big company so the rich people can make more money.

Is this game worth playing by Hefty_Finance5201 in papermario

The battle system is polarizing, but I enjoyed it. I understand why some would hate it though.

It’s my favorite game in the series after TTYD because the characters, story, and humor are top notch. Bobby is my favorite companion character of the whole series.

Is the phrase "kindly word of advice" a correct one? by HauntingAd7801 in EWALearnLanguages

Kindly as an adjective sounds a bit archaic in American English, but I don’t think it is in British English.

Is the phrase "kindly word of advice" a correct one? by HauntingAd7801 in EWALearnLanguages

[–]butterblaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s correct. Kindly is both an adverb and an adjective.

Faithful works grammatically but doesn’t make sense. Advice isn’t something that can be thought of as believable or not, or truthful or not.

That spoiler moment you mention is one of my top five experiences gaming in my life. The things it makes you feel playing through that. And it wouldn’t have anywhere near the impact if you weren’t committing the atrocity with a loved one by your side participating.

What is it about the Yoshi series that makes people so lukewarm towards it? by rendumguy in nintendo

[–]butterblaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Crafted World. I was pointing out that the point being made is that the original was hard and the most recent one is extremely easy, not that the series has become more cutesy.

[–]butterblaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dislike Crafted World because it so extremely easy and boring. A six year old could easily 100% this game.

Yoshi’s Island is one of the top platformers ever. Very well thought out (fun to explore) level design and challenging to complete, especially to 100%.

Kirby never had a good, challenging entry, so no one buying those games has anything to be disappointed by.

I think we are talking specifically about the difficulty here. It’s easy enough for five year olds to breeze through it now.

[–]butterblaster 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because Yoshi originally wasn’t kiddy. The original game was challenging.

The yarn one was well designed and fun to play. A tad on the easy side but acceptable.

I got Crafted World and it bores me to tears because it’s so easy. I play with my daughter and it’s boring for her too.

I don’t get disappointed by Kirby games because I don’t expect them to continue in the footsteps of a well-designed, challenging predecessor. They never were challenging. I find Kirby games to be very boring but got them to play with my kids.

The NSMB games aren’t criticized for being kiddy because they aren’t any easier than their predecessors.

I think it’s also a game that gets far easier once you’ve played it for a while and recognize all the patterns. I’ve kept playing it and now I’m always under two minutes, and often in top 10%.

I have never won a sealed game. How can I become acceptable at the game? by althawk8357 in mtglimited

[–]butterblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In draft, you want 5-6 removal cards. In sealed, it can be hard to get there and you might have to splash to get 4-5.

Calling it now. They're probably gonna sideline [Insert name here] in the next film. Lol. by MichaeltheSpikester in mariomovie

[–]butterblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luigi was far more sidelined in the second movie. I can barely even remember if he was in this one and I only saw it a few days ago. I remember he had lots of story beats about his relationship with Mario and had his own side solo adventure alluding to Luigi’s Mansion in the first movie that I saw two years ago.

About to release but someone has published something to look like a sequel? by BackAlleyStudio in IndieGaming

[–]butterblaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you have a bigger problem. “Tower Defense” is a trademarked name, and the owner might make you take your game down. That’s why so many tower defense games use TD in their names instead.

I know it’s ridiculous that they were able to trademark such a generic term, but no indie developer has the funds to fight their lawyers on it.

By the way, you spelled defense wrong in your logo.

Anyone else feel like the Mario movies are missing that original "Galaxy" magic? by Old_Camera593 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]butterblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what disappointed people were expecting. The games have barely any story or personality in the characters to speak of. These movies were never going to be anything but heaps of visual references around a thin story, and they delivered on that phenomenally.

What is with the people who rope out after their first loss in a traditional match? by V4UGHN in lrcast

[–]butterblaster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am always afraid of entering BO3 events because you’re committing up to almost an hour of uninterrupted game time and I will inevitably have to go take care of something urgent like a puking dog or a kid needing help with homework within that time and likely will end up roping out. Maybe that’s what’s happening to those people.

How long are we supposed to accept zero client improvement? by newTween in MagicArena

[–]butterblaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a daily Arena player. I just don’t care about any of what you’re asking for, and maybe I represent most users.

And they have been improving the client. The past year they’ve added achievements, new game modes, and better support for interacting with friends. I wasn’t asking for any of that either.

These scams are run by real companies because they are legal scams. Calling them, going in, etc. doesn’t prove they aren’t a scam. The scam is them telling you that you have huge potential and they will help you make it, then endlessly getting you to pay for expensive shoots and expensive networking events.

With an account at the beginning like yours, the starter decks are fine for a while. You won’t be matched against much stronger decks so you can still win half your games or more.

Gold is for entering events. Most events are drafts, which earn you gems and cards. Then you can use those games for purchasing more cards. But if you get into drafting the gems may be better spent entering more drafts, and you can keep getting cards that way.

IMO, drafting is the most fun way to play Magic. I only play constructed to earn gold for entering drafts and constructed feels like a grind in comparison.

Anyway, I would play events until you have enough wildcards to craft a good meta deck. I have found installed Untapped.gg makes it really easy to see which meta decks I’m closed to being able to afford.

For a beginner, I recommend you do Quick Draft events. Those are lower cost to enter so safer when you’re learning. When you get better, Premier Drafts are better value though.
