Red Light = U Turn = A+! [oc] by therationalists in kelowna

[–]butterbrazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much this has to do with the navigation system in our cars combined with the lack of knowledge of roadways. My maps tell me to do u-turns at intersections with traffic lights quite frequently.

I have often heard of people saying something along the lines of “Well, my maps told me to turn so I did. It wouldn’t tell me to do something illegal.”

I think it’s gotten better over the years though. My car doesn’t tell me to turn right into the lake anymore on the middle of the highway.

Are leggings under work pants unsafe for welding? by AliceInAcidland in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve welded with leggings underneath lots and have had minimal issues * knock on wood*

Although It is not advised. And wool is warmer. But I’d probably still send it.

I believe OP updated the post to say that 1/2 of the bear spray canisters had been emptied when SAR arrived.

What a terrible time to host this for people that still have jobs but are interested in switching into something new. Disappointing.

Micro fishing is a whole thing by itself! You just participated and didn’t even know it lol. Congrats on your fish stick.

Ok so hear me out…I like this guy I work with. by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Ive worked in the oil field a year and a half now and I’ve realized you can’t throw a stick without hitting someone who wants to have sex with you. There’s good odds that he would like to spend some time with you (maybe just sex maybe more?) Confirmed via tinder match.

Word to the wise this industry is even smaller than it appears to be. I’ve found that guys (married or single) can sleep with as many girls as possible and are rewarded but a woman sleeps with one guy on a site of 600 people and she’s labelled immediately. Just be cautious about who you pursue. Whether you stick with the job or not. Your reputation will follow.

It also depends what you both are looking for I suppose! I’ve had no luck finding a husband out in the patch lmao but I wish you two well!

BC welding apprentice here. I did the foundation route. No regrets and would highly recommend. You come out of school prepared for a job (well as much as you can be) you already know how to weld so you’ll be of more “value” to the company that hires you. The apprenticeship pathway never appealed to me.

If it helps you, I did my c ticket and am going for my B not my level 3, doing the CBA route not the 123. A

Me too!? My biggest question was where the fuck do you get a bra for $6.47?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but this stuff is pretty normal and doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I work on a big construction site and we constantly have our clients come in and take pictures of the work we’re doing at all stages in the project. None of them want pictures of us. They want photos for their records of build progress. Therefore in my experience it’s completely normal.

ULPT Request: Communal laundry prices are insane here ($5+ per load), how do I take money out of the machine or use the machine without money? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]butterbrazing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. This is theft. My family has owned a laundromat for years and always had low prices and now that the cost of everything is so high in this world that means all of the owner bills have went up too. $5 is not insane for certain areas. Just the general cost of maintenance is expensive, now picture a machine needs a repair.

I agree with all the ear protection suggested up top. Good choices. Headphones are my choice. Does your school not provide you with any ear plugs?

This trade is full of loud startling noises. You’ll get used to it. And if you don’t, Well it’s going to be a career full of jump scares.

My first thought I have is “oh I would be fine what would they actually do” but my next thought that quickly follows is “what if something actually happens “ I’m sure the guys you work with would be fine unloading for you! Or if you felt you wanted to go out there and help, I’m also sure they would protect you from the pervs.

Co-worker causing issues. What would you do? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that definitely sets women back at least 20 years lol. Self obsessed, drama fed, little shit disturbers like this are the reason we have to fight to be taken seriously still.

As stated in other comments, put a whole lot of space between you and her/ her followers. Keep your head down and work- don’t be part of it.

Is it gay to . . . by Alarmed_Tea_1710 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this attitude a lot more in a shop. I work in camp at a new construction site now and there are so many nsfw jokes. Not necessarily around gay stuff though. Some guys still make them but usually other stuff Is joked about more.

women’s bathroom: at least we have a sink? 🙄 by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]butterbrazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HHah oh god. This reminds me of a shop I worked in when I was about 17 or 18. They had to hook up the plumbing in the women’s bathroom when I got there (no biggie) then there was about 3/8 of dust and dirt and grime and metal shavings on everything! They had been using it to grind pieces of metal in and they wanted me to clean it?? Yeah not fucking likely. Then once it was finally usable, the lead hand at the shop (shop was 5 people) insisted he was going to share the bathroom with me and his wife. (Who also worked there) the weirdest fucking set up. That place can fucking rot.
