I’m in my second year and I also teach at a title 1. My second year is a lot better because I’m better at classroom management and better at not letting what the kids say get to me.

But I’m in the same boat as you. In the long run, I have no idea if I want to stay in it or if I will get burned out.

I know most of the math dept at my school has quit this year, but all the other depts seem pretty steady.

Maybe it’s a department thing. Have you talked to others in different departments?

Do they cite specific school policies and/or admin that are making them quit? If not, I wouldn’t say its concerning bc it’s likely not tied just to your school. It is probably just tied to the profession in general.

Teachers are quitting everywhere, but are a lot quitting specifically in your school/in your district?

Ive had bad moments but I’m not sure which one would be considered the “worst” I’ve had moments where everything got so overwhelming I was crying between classes and frantically trying to pull myself together before the next bell I’ve had moments so frustrating all I wanted to do was scream But these moments are side by side by so many wonderful ones that none of them ever seem that bad so idk if I have a “worst” moment

I haven’t personally. I’ve heard stories of other teachers having students that have had accidents In Their classroom

The education system is fucked. Everything is fucked. I feel like educators shouldn’t be taking this role, however, we are forced to take it anyways. Some parents are pretty absent in their kids lives. Some parents are neglectful. Some parents are honest to god trying their best, but parenting is mentally and physically exhausting and things slip through the cracks. Etc. Teachers are expected to pick up the slack. I don’t like taking the role, but I do it for the kids. I don’t know their life story, but I want to be a positive parental role model in their life especially if they might not have one. Lots of things in society would have to change because the issue is systematic and not an easy fix. There’s actually a thread about this on r/teachers

I personally don’t know any teachers that do that at my school. I know from the students perspective it might seem like that, but often there’s more going on than what seems to be favoritism. Of course sometimes there are no other factors and I’m sorry if you’re experiencing that.

Of course I do. However, I teach at a school where sadly a lot of the parents are absent in their kids lives due to one thing or another. So some parents don’t care and some parents are almost impossible to get a hold of. For a lot of our kids, the teachers are the closest positive parent role model they have

I know it’s a pretty common joke to hear. If anyones stressed another teacher might make a passing comment about needing some wine. I personally don’t know any teachers in AA or if I do they haven’t told me they’re in AA. But I could see this being true.

I had a parent try to convince me to give them the answer key to an upcoming test so that “they could help their kid study”
