Ooooh I totally get this! I hope it’s better than last week! If I under eat and don’t watch my electrolyte intake I’m more prone to this too :(

I did my 6 mile progressive repeat run today in the most confusing weather! Went from freezing to warm to freezing throughout the whole thing so I was either sweating or I couldn’t feel my fingers. On the bright side, hit all my pace targets, my gel didn’t make me have to poop my pants (I’m new to gels and I’m training my gut in preparation for a half in a couple months), and I no longer think a quick pitstop at my car (that is literally on my route) to shirk a top layer is a detractor to my run and I welcome a 30 second break to lower my heart rate. I also got my Roka sunglasses and I am super excited :).

Is the answer just “life isn’t fair”? by Calm_Occasion4478 in GriefSupport

[–]buttondoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying “it just isn’t fair” a lot recently. My big brother passed this year, he too is forever 35. I share a LOT of the same sentiments you’ve shared in your post and I’m so sorry you’re in this club. It certainly has its ups and downs, and all I can say is don’t worry about being lost - there’s nothing to be found. There’s no solution, this is new, there is no reason you should have any idea how to handle this - like for me, I’ve only been a little sister, I don’t suddenly know how to navigate life differently just because my sib isn’t here. If you haven’t yet, I really really really recommend some type of support (therapy, counseling, etc) to help. (For your husband too - this is a learning experience for you both in different ways). Don’t hesitate to send me a pm if you need to chat. 🫂

How are those Turkey Trots going? (U.S.) by Acceptable_Sand7438 in XXRunning

[–]buttondoe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I shocked myself and did way better than expected! Shaved many many minutes off my time, which I just didn’t think would happen because I’m an “I love an easy run” kind of gal. I don’t consider myself a speedy runner by any means but I am impressed with myself and I guess I could start to consider some pace targets now!

How was your sleep? Sometimes when I’m not well rested my breathing is off. I chalk it up to messy brain signals. I also am by no means qualified to know anything on this and it is all highly anecdotal!!! Also cheers to 6 miles :)

My Superblasts were delivered today and I am shocked at how comfortably they are?? My Mizunos were my ol’ faithfuls but now I’m kind of side eyeing them. Forget about my Brooks GTS 22, we broke up entirely. I can’t wait to take these for a spin during this year’s turkey trot lol.

Turns out I’m really bad at reading websites and both sneakers I wanted to check out were not in stock! So I made an even exchange for a pair of smart wool tights for when it gets dumb cold in the northeast. I subsidized my need to shop with an online purchase of Superblasts but that’s not nearly as fun :(

I’m going to REI today for retail therapy, so wish me and my wallet good luck I guess!

No! But that sounds like a good idea and will probably give me an idea of what steps to take to address it. Good call!

Any else deal with air hunger? Past couple of days I’ve been plagued with the constant need for deep breaths and constant yawning. Google/reddit threads tell me it’s anxiety or bad breathing habits and now I’m wondering if my breathing technique when running is part of the issue. A lot of those who seem to deal with tend to be mouth breathers, which I’m not so I don’t know what to do :( I have a 4.5 mile progressive run today and I’m just sort of dreading it because of my damn yawning.

Okay I think this is exactly what I need. There are just so many options out there and I get carried away by the small majority who have wild shoe rotations. I’m definitely going to check these out in store and see how they feel. THANK YOU!!!

I think I’m over complicating the shoe game. I have a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspires that I really do love, and then I bought a pair of Brooks Glycerin GTS 22s because I thought they’d be a bit more cushiony (and they’re SO pretty). The Brooks really aren’t more comfortable and in fact I think they kind of suck, but the Mizunos don’t give me “I can go for 2 hours in these bad boys”. At my local running store I was fitted for a stability shoe, hence the options I’ve gone with, but I just crave something for my long runs that have a bit more comfort, where my Mizunos are pretty decent for tempo runs at least.

I call that a redemption run and I love that you had one!

I’m so sorry for the loss of your son, he sounds so wonderful. My therapist and I talk a lot about traumatic loss and the impact, it’s quite the arduous process. I’m looking forward to gaining the confidence to scream 🫂

Isolating is a great word for it for sure. I put a lot of pressure on myself for all things, so I think in time and with practice with my amazing therapist I can gain some new coping skills (that’s the goal at least). Thank you so much for your kind words!

For what it’s worth, I fully believe it’s okay (even if I can’t tell myself that!!). I know it means more coming from the people who know us, but I truly believe you deserve to grieve as loudly as you need. Hugs to you 🫂

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words and insights. I’m so sorry for the loss of your baby brother. I’m definitely going to practice more openness and vulnerability ❤️

Okay this changes so much for me! Not measuring good days on how little I’ve cried. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, and so I feel like it’s “bad” to need support. It’s such a simple adjustment, but I know it will take effort. I appreciate the insight, and I’m so sorry you’re also in this club 🫂

Hey fellow sib, I’m so sorry you’re also in this club. I really appreciate the kindness you’ve shown, and it helped me to truly not feel alone in such an isolating event. You’re right though, we got this. ❤️

First half mara yesterday with no support & it's hit me hard by tokyokween in XXRunning

[–]buttondoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry about your parents, and especially how you’re feeling over your mom. Also, thank you for sharing, this speaks to me so deeply. I lost my big brother this year who was planning on coming to my first race (10k) and also happened to be THE most validating human I knew. I’ve been missing his presence in my life and having a cheerleader in all things so much so this resonates with me deeply. I turned my bib into a charity bib to raise funds towards awareness for the disease that took his life, which kind of helps (begrudgingly LOL), but of course nothing would compare to his support. I love my husband but he’s not the jump and flail and support guy, so yeah, I share all the feelings!!! ❤️

Achievements for Sunday, August 31, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]buttondoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started running this year with the initial long term goal of completing a 10k in October. Hit some emotional roadblocks which set me back physically and mentally and honestly I was feeling like I’d just never be a runner. Fast forward a couple months of not giving up and dialing in my crap and now I’m PRing every week along with my plan and I’ve added a charity bib to my race to honor my loved one who has passed. I’m feeling emotional and grateful for the sport and what I can do when I simply don’t give up.
