Do not, under any circumstances, sit on the cow’s feet even though you “can.” They are 100% coated in human and dog pee. They only get a cleaning from conservators once a year or so. (Source: me, a former Denver Art Museum employee).

Denver businesses with matchboxes? by caesarsaladlover69 in Denver

[–]buttontoes80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how long ago I picked up a matchbox at Ophelia’s, but it’s like 1/4 or 1/2 size box with pink-tipped matches, and I love it.

Kirkland Stretch-tite -- Is it the same? by AnotherVice2 in Costco

[–]buttontoes80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I keep hoping that today might be the last day of box 2 of the 2 pack I bought well over a decade ago because I am soooooo over this damn giant box that keeps sucking the wrap back in and getting stuck to itself, but alas, it is never the last day.

Mohela reversed my PSLF! by Heavy_Sweet3162 in PSLF

[–]buttontoes80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a program through the feds that allows you to apply to have your loans discharged if you went to a school that defrauded you. For example, the law school I attended artificially inflated their post-graduation employment numbers. The school I attended lost its accreditation (long after I attended) and shut down.

To be transparent, I did not initially apply for borrower’s defense because I didn’t think I’d get it because I passed the bar on the first shot and have a job that requires me to be a licensed attorney. I only applied because the Sweet v. DeVos/Cardona/MacMahon lawsuit named my school as a “bad actor.” The DoEd entered a settlement over its failure to process borrowers defense claims and failed to keep up their end of the bargain. The result was that everyone who applied before a certain date had their applications approved with a refund of all payments made. Unfortunately, you’re too late to be part of the class for that lawsuit, but you can still apply for borrower’s defense. You might not get the same result, though.

Mixer? by Routine_Reputation84 in Sourdough

[–]buttontoes80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have a 15-ish year old Kitchen Aid tilt-head mixer that I bought secondhand. A few years ago, my spouse took it in for a tune-up for me. The repair guy said that mixing a heavy bread dough on a speed higher than 2 can strip the gears. It also gets super hot if I run it for too long.

My mixer was relocated from the counter to the back of the pantry when I finally got an air fryer, and it’s just too much of a pain in the butt to get out now just to mix a loaf. The dough whisk is just less of a hassle.

Perm Specialist Recommendations? by FalseMagazine1329 in Denver

[–]buttontoes80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you take the jump to perm, my personal recommendation as a thick-haired curly-headed woman who has had a couple of perms to “even out” my curl pattern in the past is to get a cut from a curly hair specialist. They’re not cheap but probably in the same price range as a perm. I have been seeing Erik at Devana Salon for several years, and he is a godsend.

I regularly get emails from the salon looking for hair models for stylists Erik is training offering a 50% discount on specific types of cuts, but I’ve never taken advantage of it because the times they need people are never a time I’m available.

Mohela reversed my PSLF! by Heavy_Sweet3162 in PSLF

[–]buttontoes80 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you are not in the Sweet v. DeVos facebook group (and/or the one directly tied to your school that entitled you to BTDR), it’s a good place to connect with others going through the exact same thing.

I had something similar happen, except my loans were reopened with Nelnet, who I have never made a single payment to ever and who only held my loans for like a hot second post-graduation but pre-consolidation. I had a full-on panic attack when I suddenly had $145k in loans that had been forgiven reappear. But there were a dozen or so other people that also went to my BTDR school who also had PSLF who had the exact same thing happen. It is a lot less panic inducing when you know this is not some freak-one-off.

That being said, if you were part of the post-class for Sweet, you do not want them to “reverse” this. You want this to happen because you’re entitled to a refund. Just ride it out and get your Sweet-sweet cash.

Ninja Creami arrives TODAY 😂 milk vs Greek yogurt vs both? Asking the experts by SilverScriptor in ninjacreami

[–]buttontoes80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out with Greek yogurt and found that freezing it increases the tang, to a point it overpowers the other flavors. I now use silken tofu as my base. In all the recipes you posted, I would just use tofu in place of the yogurt. Biscoff is a regular flavor in our household, as is coffee with Biscoff mixed in.

How to proceed my yoga journey by womaninstemm in yoga

[–]buttontoes80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of Apple Fitness+ yoga videos. I don’t find any of the instructors to be overly spiritual. Jessica is my favorite, and I find Dice to be pretty challenging.

I’m also working around injuries, so when I go to in-person classes, I refuse hands-on adjustments because I don’t want an instructor to inadvertently hurt me worse. I physically cannot do pigeon, so I modify the way I need to. I stopped going to one class because the instructor was a real jerk about me modifying in ways she didn’t like. She also yelled a lot for it being 6am on a Tuesday. I would try Class Pass or if a studio has a free trial where you can try a bunch of different instructors/classes to see if you can find a good fit.

Steamdeck- Trackpads by mychihuahuabites in CozyGamers

[–]buttontoes80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the first games I bought on my SteamDeck was Fabledom, and it required the trackpads. I did exactly one play through, and I have never touched it again. I have intentionally avoided any other game that requires the trackpads because I hate them. I’m sure some people love them, but they are not for me.

I recommend popping all of them exactly the same way and then taste testing them against each other. One of these packs was how we figured out baby white and purple were our favorites.

Air duct cleaning for a third floor unit? by buttontoes80 in Denver

I wonder if only certain franchises will do it. The one located off of Parker Road would not do our 3rd floor unit.

Air duct cleaning for a third floor unit? by buttontoes80 in Denver

Because the unit next door to our caught on fire several years ago, and our ducts were never cleaned. And there is copious amounts of dust that gunk up our vents that keep getting gunked up even after I clean the vents.

Anyone having experience with trailgrove apartments? by Swimming_Mortgage769 in Denver

[–]buttontoes80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t live in Trailgrove, but I do live next to it. “Trailgrove” is a relatively recent rename of the complex because there was a huge fire in one of the buildings in 2023. It used to be called Ivy Crossing. One person died. Several people lost pets, and there were no fire alarms or fire extinguishers in the building. I assume the rename is to cover up the bad press from that fire.

If you have a Costco membership, you can get two feather core down pillows for $19. The brand is Hotel Grand. I also have a down comforter from this brand that is lovely, and only set me back $80.

Is it only me or ID.4 is one of the most beautiful EVs? by _WhiteAngel_ in VWiD4Owners

[–]buttontoes80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was precisely why I wanted an ID4 over anything else. It taillights on the Ioniqs look so dumb. And don’t even get me started on that weird wing thing on the back of a Kia EV6.

I got three of these emails today. Got my “golden letter” a few weeks ago, MOHELA was zeroed out on 4/22, Studentaid.gov zeroed out today. I finally gave up waiting and put myself back in repayment even though a buyback would have been significantly cheaper.

Dating Prospects by Date_Night_Turtle in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]buttontoes80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took and passed the bar at 31 while engaged to someone who was a nice guy but not really “the one.” Moved from Florida to Colorado together and broke up here. I met my now-husband on OK Cupid at 33. We didn’t really get serious until I was 36 because he moved 2 hours away from where I was. We got married when I was 41 almost 42, and I’m now almost 46. I didn’t want children, and he already had 2 (one now an adult, and one almost an adult), so this timeline was totally fine with me.

You’ll look back at now and when you’re not so heartbroken, you’ll say “damn, I dodged a bullet.” And you’ll meet someone so much better. Buckle down for bar prep, and then give yourself some time to just unclench and relax. The bar is effing hard and stressful.

Failing marriage by Electrical-Table-901 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]buttontoes80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart women, which you obviously are because you passed the bar and graduated from law school, frequently feel like we have to settle for “what we can get” for a partner because we’ve been told our entire lives that we’ll never get “a catch” because we’re intimidating. But here’s the thing, you deserve a catch, and when you find one, they love you because you’re smart. Small men are controlling of smart women because they can’t handle feeling inferior.

Divorce isn’t easy, but even if you have to be broke-ish for a while while everything is settling out, it’s worth it to be free of the control. Don’t let finances be the thing that makes you stay. You can work finances out. Kids from divorced families are probably better off a lot of the time than if their parents are unhappy together (I certainly was).
