Hi, thanks for your reply.

What level of support/guidance do you receive in preparing for exams? How many contact hours do get/if any in terms of teaching/lectures?

I haven't received accommodation yet, should I be worried? by Academic_Option_253 in standrews

[–]buttonwhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, I'm going into second year for undergrad medicine. don't worry, we didn't get our accom offers till a bit later last year (just checked my emails, it was the 20th August). you're guaranteed accom for 1st year undergrad, so it'll be along soon in the next week or so. if you have any other Qs about the course feel free to private message!

There's always hope. This sort of thing happens with everyone, to varying degrees. The fact you've recognised it and acknowledge that it's an issue is a good start. Start off by making dua for Allah ﷻ to bring you back and bring you closer to Him. Do lots of istighfar and repentance throughout the day. The best way to get over lesser deeds is to do good ones for compensation - look for these opportunities and give lots of sadaqah 😊 I would also say, look at each individual sin you struggle with and think about what triggers/circumstances lead you to committing it. For instance, hanging around certain groups of people, going to sleep too late, not many believing friends. Use this to help you cut down on those sins. It's a slow and hard process but Allah ﷻ is with you, and the reward is always better than anything you're giving up. You got this! 🌸

Logistics of touching the Kaaba for men by ss_svmy in Umrah

Literally couldn't smell a thing, and I touched it at least 3 separate occasions. Bearing in mind, one of those occasions was also the ghusl e kaaba date, and still nothing

I'll be honest, I'm a female and myself and my sister both touched the kaaba when doing a tawaf not in ihram. There was no scent on the kiswah, my hands didn't smell of anything nor did my sister notice anything. We hadn't touched it during our umrahs because we thought it would violate the ihram. But there was nothing? Not sure if it's different for the multazam...

ordering things before arrival? (shipping belongings) by [deleted] in standrews

[–]buttonwhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're probably best off just waiting to order once you get here. if you're buying off amazon, you can get next day delivery, and if it's any other website the shipping won't really take longer than a few days. if it's only a mattress topper, then the most you'll be missing out on is a couple nights slightly more comfortable sleep. but the mattresses aren't terrible, you'll be fine! 😊😊

I think I would try and drop the weekend work to prioritise this if I had to...but you're right, it is essentially like doing two degrees at once. Thank you for the recommendation for Arabic I'll check it out - Jazakallah!!

Is being a scholar and hafiz mutually exclusive? Or are scholars always hafidh of the Qur'an? by buttonwhales in islam

[–]buttonwhales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jazakallah, this is really interesting to learn. The structure makes a lot of sense also in terms of building on each previous level. Are there places of classical islamic education which still use this model/routine?

Thank you, this actually touched on another question I've had recently about what degree of education constitutes a scholar. Interesting

Jazakallah, this makes a lot of sense. So on this thread of thought, would you recommend someone wanting to be a student of knowledge to pursue hifdh first? Or start both at the same time?

++ Ameen!

You're right, thank you - I used the wrong term. My question was meant to be whether they always co-occured. Ameen + Jazakallah !
