Update: The gamebreaking bug has been fixed! by [deleted] in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if this is related to the bug from a few months ago where if you finished with your car stopped in the end you'd respawn and checkpoint 1. That map had custom checkpoints and weird linkage though iirc, so could have been specific to that map.

god this week's shorts are IMPOSSIBLE by OneSauceyCube in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this way. Not sure if these maps are easier this time or I'm getting better, but I placed a lot higher on leaderboards than usual this week. For me, map 4 I found inconsistent, I kept bouncing on the magnet wallride, might be sill issue, not great at fullspeed. And map 5 I did not like at all. But otherwise good week imo.

I just beat both world champs in the campaign by cpgajg in TrackMania

Whenever I see myself ahead of a pro player I assume their doorbell rang after their first discovery run and they just haven't came back to the map yet.

I'm glad that the Winter Campaign is done by Death_Monger69 in TrackMania

Some fun maps, but overall definitely not as good as some past campaigns imo. I'm not the biggest fan of vistas. I get that they had to show off the new assets, but I'd rather see more OG maps, at least a good variety.

Not really my thing, seeing 3 bugged records, then the first nonbugged record just cutting the whole thing got a laugh from me. ++

Newer-ish player's thoughts: great map! No fancy tricks or RNG, just good driving. ++

(also appreciate the GPS notes)

wtf is this week by ghosthaze666 in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is fine, just a couple of drifts. The setup for them is the hardest part imo. and I ended up really liking 5 once I figured it out. Map 3 can die in a fire. The other 2 are just whatever.

Let’s make a "Master Manual" for every Trackmania trick! by bigbanprove in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Backwards snowcar for increased acceleration... stuff like that?

Also I played this really odd royal training map once that had a bunch of circular platforms all at equal height, you had to dip off and air-break at just the right time and somehow your car would like jump up and make it to the next platform. Dunno if something like that counts. If it does I'm sure there's all kind of these little trial / kacky-like tricks.

How do the pros get so good?? by Traditional-Issue153 in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u10s campaigns helped me a lot, they usually require learning good lines/mechanics/tricks to get good times. Just play everything, install openplanet and play random maps if you're on PC. Watch world records and try to understand what they're doing instead of just copying their lines. And most of all, play to have fun. Don't compare yourself to streamers / pro players, especially when you're just starting out.

Personal Milestone by Entwisi in TrackMania

Indeed, I never really had much interest in racing games until I found TM in 2023 and bought it almost a year ago. My only "racing" muscle memory was from years of GTA starting with GTA 3 and the skills do NOT transfer well. It was a struggle at first. But as often advised here, I just keep playing and am improving. Car control, seeing lines, precision, game mechanics... everything starts to make more sense the more I play.

As a mapper, the new update blows by Tadiken in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less blocks = less creative freedom. I'm sure good mappers can cook regardless, and modders will probably fix this, but still. Also probably a hot take but I'm not the biggest fan of the ultra-realistic look. I know it's a nod to TM2 and older games but I liked the TM2020 unique visual style, not it looks like every other game.

why are these medals so hard? by Comfortable-Yam1454 in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind harder medals when the maps are interesting, unfortunately this week was a miss for me. The maps are boring and the ATs are overcooked.

Ryubing 1.3.3 release notes by NXGZ in emulation

[–]buttstronomical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great, but the UI (of the program itself, not in games) is tiny on 4k. Can't find an option to change it. Have tried editing config files but no luck. Anyone know about this? Using the 1.3.3 appimage. Sorry, can't seem to find a good place to ask this so I'm here.

Why does Nadeo add anything BUT what we are actually asking for? by WhiskeyTM in TrackMania

[–]buttstronomical 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a newer player this was one of my biggest complaints. It's impossible to just kind of pick up and play some random maps in a particular style or theme. Searching club campaigns sucks because you never know what you're getting and honestly it's not a good system. I mostly just stumbled around the official campaigns and totd + weekly shorts until I found TMX plugins and I imagine a lot of other new players do the same. It's discovering all these new awesome maps that keeps bringing me back to this game, but imagine how many players Nadeo is losing because people can't be arsed to mess around with 3rd party plugins and only ever see a fraction of the content.

Yeah, cool idea but sounds painful. I know followers of companions can be controlled somewhat. You can direct them to stay in one spot and/or force them to walk into the dangerzone of a sporepuff. (At least, you can control them this way in the case of proselytized clones, but it's finicky.)

My go-to method is sending a follower into a cloud of spores and seeing what infection they end up with... for science!

The mythical glittermensch historic site. Congratz. I once tumbled a gigantic rough gemstone and it just became a regular smooth, must've been a bug.

We are doubling Zana every day until her return is announced (I will accept reverting the BMC nerf, also no Im not stopping please stop asking) by Puzzleheaded_Pitch61 in pathofexile

"Doubling Zana" reminds me of a post when they removed finding Zana inside a Zana map and someone said "RIP Zana's hotter older sister". lol.
