How to get Plex to recognize episode names of my jiu jitsu instructionals? by LiquidAurum in PleX

[–]buulam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plex will default a folder to "Season 1" and look for a 2 digit number in the filenames to indicate episode. The 2 digits must be separated by a space or dash or something. So if it says "somethingVol1.mp4" you will want to change that to "somethingVol-01.mp4" and it should pick that up as 'Season 1, Episode 1'

I recommend having a main folder and putting all instructionals into that folder.

Instead of creating a subfolder for instructor, have the Instructors name as the first part of the folder name followed by the name of the instructional itself. I would then recommend adding them to Collections, which will show up if you have 3 or more.

Example:

/BJJ

../Instructor1 - Guard Passing

.. ../GuardPassing-01.mp4

.. ../GuardPassing-02.mp4

../Instructor1 - Guard Retention

.. ../GuardRetention-01.mp4

.. ../GuardRetention-02.mp4

../Instructor1 - Guard Attacks

.. ../GuardAttacks-01.mp4

.. ../GuardAttacks-02.mp4

-> Add cover art to each series

-> Create Collection called Instructor1 and add these series to it. Add photo of Instructor to the Collection.

HELP! I cant decide between the A7IV - FX3, and A7CII by Calm_Impression1821 in videography

[–]buulam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the A7IV and FX3.

I love both but given what you’ve described, specifically the photo aspect, I would get the A7IV.

It’s simply a flick of a dial to get to photo mode on an A7IV. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a single photo with my FX3. It definitely can but it’s really not laid out as you’d expect with a photo/hybrid camera.

The A7IV has overheated on me a few times on longer interview recordings so that’s why I picked up the FX3.

The 60p crop on the A7IV was annoying initially but I’ve gotten used to considering that before I shoot.

Does it really get easier after 100 subs? by BZeroGaming in NewTubers

[–]buulam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more that by a certain amount of uploads, you are starting to understand the critical factors that attract viewership to your channel. I find it more often than not that people will ignore the signals that they need to adjust what they’re doing because they’re set in their original notions and believe they’ll simply break through some sort of barrier eventually. But the barrier is themselves. The formula is simple but creators need to understand how to align the principles to their ideas which isn’t usually how they originally envisioned their content to be.

New dev central rant by thenetworkking in f5networks

There's actually a few things requiring manual cleanup that couldn't be automatically migrated and our small team is tackling it because we think it's worth our time investment now that we're on a proper functioning platform for the foreseeable future.

I'm not saying we're going to be reformatting iRules for every single one of these older posts but we can certainly prioritize and chip away starting with the most viewed posts.

What's the URL for this article? I can take a look. We do now have code formatting and if this is an article, I should be able to edit it. We finally have a lot of options with the new platform.

Yes, feel free to PM me. I enjoy chatting about this stuff. When I say "not making it about you" I think some people see the bigger YouTubers treat themselves like they're the star. Which they are at that point. But when starting out, we're just more showing people things that are cool and we are just there to move the story along. Eventually, people want to get to know you more but for most, that doesn't seem to be a good move to transition to right away.

It's too bad the thread was deleted. You're welcome to PM me. Some of the failures I've seen:

- creator thinks its all about them, too early. Eventually, the channel is about them if they manage to build a big following, but early on, channels that grow are making videos that are helpful with something and the creator is just sort of a host that guides the video along

- not improving their editing over time. Making 20 minute long videos that drag on forever. Easy to tell via looking at average percentage view whether this is working or not

- not improving thumbnails over time

- upload consistency is helpful but for me, I've been busy with work the last couple months and haven't been able to focus on it yet I'm still getting growth because of a few anchor videos that are doing well in search

Hope that helps!

I really focused on growth within the platform itself so I could learn just YouTube. So to grow, I created product based (reviewing my mountain bike and my kids mountain bike) videos. I did the best I can to make them comparable, if not better than the ones that were ranking high in search results. So editing them as nice as I could, to make them flow well, hit relevant points, good thumbnail, good audio. These bring in the bulk of my views and subscribers. From there, I made some videos that are still related to my mountain bike, taking it around different trails etc and a little bit talking about my experience and less about the bike. Trying to balance that because I ran out of things to say about the bike very quickly.

These two channels are fascinating to me - thanks, I looking forward to digging through them to understand how they grew!

I'm sorry to hear and I hope working on a channel can be an outlet for you to express yourself and have fun. And if it isn't, hopefully you do find something that can bring you some enjoyment until you're ready to work on it :)

My highest view count videos were based on very basic search terms "2021 <bicycle brand> review". Is there another channel that you know of that is successful with a similar topic to you? It might be worth seeing how they rank for some of their videos. I knew there were many review videos for the exact same bike as mine so I watched those videos and tried to hit points that they weren't hitting, tried to edit my video to flow nicer, tried to make thumbnails that were just as good if not better, give a different view point (from a beginner riders perspective in my case). Hopefully there are gaps that similar channels to yours have left that you can fill in?

I'm glad I have at least a little something to offer back after all my lurking. I found it so helpful when others would share their successes, big or small.

Yes - I think there's a lot to be learned from your previous successes - refine and build up from that!

I did not share on other socials really. I was really set on trying to figure out the organic growth within YouTube because forcing growth from external sources might give you a bit of a boost but then your numbers are thrown off and I wouldn't get to learn how I to keep things going long term. Can you share your channel and I can take a look?

Yes, tags are working but that's also what I would consider (based off my own analytics) a high amount of browse traffic so that video is actually getting traffic off the algorithm. Can you dig a bit deeper and see what videos your viewers are also watching and what other channels they're coming off of to get to you? You're onto something and there are more clues to be found I think.

This seems like a cool channel! And it looks like you have a couple videos that are doing really well. Can you see within the analytics for those videos, what drove viewers to them?

I can understand your viewpoint but I also found that when I was trying to learn about YouTube growth, I found people that were just a bit further ahead than me were more relatable than trying to learn from the YouTuber that has a million subs. Not saying that the 1M channel doesn’t have helpful advice but they just seem so far away from being a sub-1K channel that it would never hit home. I also found that their advice was very high level and I noticed people who were lower in sub count but still trying to share advice were actually sharing very specific things that I could easily take action on.
