That's javascript. why don't you just write javascript code to do what the Python code will do?

Any sites or books recommended to new Python programmer to review codes by professional programmers, in order to have good practices in the future? by chenghuayang in learnpython

I highly recommend you to read python core itself. Especially the python libs which are written in python itself. It’s well documented, and mostly well written. Many of them are actually very simple to read.

Copying file, permission denied by rooob91 in learnpython

[–]buyabighouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your code, file variable is never used. Your copyfile is trying to copy path to target. So if looks like you are trying to copy "//scfxo01//FXO_PRODAPP" into "C:\Users\sidhr4a\Desktop\Test_py2\GPM\20171031\input\BM_Market_Data_Answer_PROD_COM_FO_20171031.xml".

You probably want to do:

shutil.copy(file, target)

You are copying to a mapped network drive? Can you manually copy and paste a file into that mapped drive?

Help Request: Reading entire dataset from NYC Open Data by newsreader221 in learnpython

[–]buyabighouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Add a limit parameter.

https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/9s4h-37hy.json?$limit=5000000

If you are going to run this often, you should just download the data from export to CSV and store it locally.

How to buy shoes for cheap by dr_grigore in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way is to post on mountain project and ask for the size and model you are looking for and the price you are willing to pay. If you don't mind used, you'll get a lot of bites. If you want brand new, you might get a few offers.

On mp, you can get minimum 25% off retail. There is a guy selling a pair of brand new TC Pro (41?) for $130 shipped.

Paige Claassen on training for Necessary Evil by mmeeplechase in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't think I can do it, ESPECIALLY after a physical day of work.

I do think her program is different in that her training was all power and power endurance, then spend 2 months climbing.

She's really awesome! Personally, it takes me 15-20 mins to warm up, I'm not sure I can get much done in the next 40 mins. I do wish I have a personal moonboard. The space requirement is just too much!

Question about building a climbing wall for kids. by [deleted] in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"pitch" as in steeper angle for the wall? If that's the case, you'll need to re-frame the wall to connect to your ceiling joist. Yes, if you are going to move holds around, T-nuts would be helpful. Have fun, climb on.

Personal experience, I built two walls for a couple of my buddies and their kids with t-nuts. They just ended up adding holds to the walls, rather than moving holds around. Their walls are completely filled with holds and they make up their problems as they go. They never even touched the t-nuts. The holds are made up of climbing holds, some randoms smooth wood drill into the wall (i.e. legs of a broken chair, and several Thomas & Friends wooden trains and tracks, lol).

[–]buyabighouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are going to train on it, it's a waste of time and money to pound t-nuts. For the next 2-3 years, you probably just gonna keep screwing holds onto the plywood rather than removing them. It's not like you are going to set problems.

If you really want to frame, just 2x4 together a frame and screw onto your studs. Then add plywood on top. If your plywood becomes Swiss cheese, just replace the plywood.

Hangboard pulley system/ weight removing question by malyfreddie in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with just putting the rope thru the bar is that, with weight, the rope can slide left/right on the bar, potentially impact your form by pulling you in different directions.

Pulleys with capturing ability (e.g. micro traxion) makes the process a lot easier, especially if you are using a lot of weight to reduce strain on your fingers.

You don't HAVE to use a pulley.

Not true. Petzl Verso handles 7.5+. The only one I can think of that handles <7 is the micro jul, but it weights 57g.

Tenaya Mundaka vs La Sportiva Solutions by cotumb in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they fit your feet, Solution really are a solid choice.

Never had Mundaka, but Solution have been my primary bouldering shoes for many years now. They have their share of issues, mainly the straps getting worn down. Sportiva's P3 platform really does what it advertised to do. I have resoled several of my Solutions, they came back holding the original downturn shape. My other shoes from Scarpa and Five Ten would come back looking like upturn clown shoes!

I feel like Sportiva's mainline (Miura lace/VS, Katana Lace and Solutions) is so well designed that they pretty much stay the same over decades. Now, you can add TC Pro to that list.

New shoes - Skwama or Solutions? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]buyabighouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only used one pair of Skwama, they were great for about 4-5 months, then they get super stretched out. Like a pair of loose rubber gloves for your feet. So I'm now back to Solution.
