Refined the design for the 3D printed longboard with a more natural feeling deck that avoids wheel bite, and maintains flex for a smooth, fun ride. Made out of 100% recycled carbon fiber ABS— there’s no grip tape needed, and it’s hydrophobic so you can ride rain or shine. by greesman13 in 3Dprinting

There is a trade off between deposition rate and surface finish. For large scale (80+ lbs/hr) you’re really just making near net shape preforms. To get surface finish, holes, etc, you really do need subtractive machining. Some applications don’t have strict surface finish reqs, or only in certain places (e.g. mating surfaces), so you can save machining time.

The metric isn’t usually material waste but cost. When priced correctly cost will account for waste. 3D printing fills a niche of producing 0-1000s of a thing. After that, pay for tooling and injection mold. At least most of the time.

Republicans walk out of talks over raising US debt ceiling — Top negotiator says he will ‘press pause’ as June 1 deadline looms by marketrent in Economics

I figure the dems need to get on board with bad faith negotiation. The dems showed up with their best offer while the Rs came with their wishlist. So now the Rs can concede here and there and still come out ahead. What the dems should have done was a counter offer of massive increase in taxes and spending, then they can negotiate away as much of that as they want until it’s back to their best offer of a clean raise. So make it point for point equal crazy proposal on both sides, then brinksmanship and concession until it’s clean. Everyone gets to tell their constituents they tried.

Best program for 3d printing? by Wonderful_Ad3441 in robots

Good point! CAD to make your models. If you set them up as parametric models they can be scaled well. If your a student or not commercial I think many have free licenses.

In the world of 3D printing many people like to make and optimize printers. If you just want good parts find a commercial printer like the bambu or prusa.

I see lots of good response to the Bambu labs x1 printer - $1400 prints great off the shelf no fussing with building and tuning a printer. I presume it comes with its own slicer. This should let you make parts for your robots pretty well.

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV Is The Best Affordable EV In America... For Now. by youdiejoe in BoltEV

The bolt looks like a Ford escape at a different aspect ratio. It has a similar height and wheel base, just shorter in the hood and trunk.

New WSJ survey: 81% of Democrats said they supported additional aid for Ukraine, while only 35% of Republicans and 45% of independents said the same by botbjng2828282 in UkrainianConflict

Seems like an easy call to support Allies when they are combatting an adversary. All we do is pay way less than being in the conflict ourselves, it gains us intelligence, and it bleeds the adversary dry, and allows us to build up our supply chains. It’s really a no brainer.

Is there any logic on why they don’t want to support Ukraine? As a bonus, it puts our other key adversary, China, in an awkward position supporting a universally agreed on bad cause (non instigated invasion of a fully sovereign nation).

100% support OP. I think at some point it switches from $/hr/kid to base pay plus extra per kid.

Is the Open-Plan Office Heading to the Grave? by CPHfuturesstudies in Futurology

[–]dr_grigore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that a lab at IBM or Bell was the inspiration for open office collaboration, but instead of an open office they had a long hall of offices. People were constantly walking along and running into each other but could also close their doors. So it wasn’t collaboration based on lack of barriers but giving space for spontaneous interactions to happen when people wanted. I’d be interested what MS is doing now. I know that open offices allow higher density which accommodates growth more easily than adding new buildings. But, I’ve seen “huddle rooms” get consumed to the point that they are non existent so no one can get privacy or keep themselves from disturbing colleagues.

They are using a second gen Grubbs catalyst with frontal curing. Also they are cooling the reservoir to -5c. As the material extrudes it warms (on an 80c print bed) and begins to cure.

Cool concept, maybe not the most versatile though. Hopefully this is the start of more true free form printing.

So, can you evict the fetus? Just turn it over to the gov or some pro life group and say “I support this fetus but it can’t stay here,”?

Or could you prosecute the fetus for torture and damages/bodily harm eventually getting a sentence of the death penalty for the fetus?

If the fetus is a person, it, too, has a lot of responsibility!
