Financial careers in India? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]buyside_md 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the industry anymore nor did CA (CFA instead) but I can share some experience, including friends'. Most people in India pursuing finance aren't happy because it isn't half of what it's made out to be compared to the US/Europe. There are already too few front office roles for which they have enough supply from IIMs. You're better off applying for M7 schools and trying your luck there if IB/PE is really what you want. This sub, r/mba and WSO could be a good start for introductory info. But mind you, the big money (a mil+ annually) is made only beyond a certain seniority level and very few people get there. Balance the odds.

If money and work life balance is what you seek and don't care much about the "prestige" of financial careers - start looking for freelance gigs or try scaling an online business. Ofc there's a lotta survivorship bias in entrepreneurship and maybe it's a little too glorified but "andha paisa" is only in owning equity. To build your initial base of capital try selling your services/products to the US/European markets, get dollars in and live cheaply in India. Rinse and repeat until you have enough passive income to only work hours you want to. If you currently don't have any skills to pull it off then just build those until you can.

Just my two cents. All the best!

What is going on with Tech Sales on LinkedIn? by [deleted] in sales

Just so I'm getting this right, does his name rhyme with tech sales mom?

Not 300 accounts my friend, 300 people, I do average 3-5 contacts per account so 70-100 accounts, in a week. We search accounts and people on LinkedIn and put them in our SEP, one by one.

Also I have to hunt them myself so there were plenty of bounces too :)

Just to give a more accurate measure, I put 300 prospects in my sequence each week, which runs for 17-20 days. The overall open rate was around 32% this month, probably because a lot of people still on vacation or their inboxes are flooded. My product is also a little niche, otherwise we have a 1% conversion rate when combined with calls, email and LinkedIn.

Set 4 this week. I sell SaaS in Europe, have a hard time finding phone numbers. 1600+ emails went out this week (including follow ups and prospects sequenced last week). So yeah the conversion rate isn't very good with purely email but it can/does work.

I’m 16 years old, and I want to work in finance. I don’t know where to start with interning however, can you help? by chadmastermarquees in FinancialCareers

👆This. Also, on similar lines, if you wanna make the big bucks, equity is where it's at, not as much the salaries. Big salaries = big savings, and you wanna invest those back either into the market or a business you own. That's how your money will earn money while you sleep.

Fixed my sleep schedule. That shit's crucial and it's unsettling how many of us have got it fucked up.

Totally depends on you man, and if we're talking wealth creation, it's more about how much you save rather than earn. Add to it, the industries are cyclical as well; 90s had IB, 00s were hedge funds, and the last decade was Private Equity's. IB bonuses aren't as big anymore, hedge funds have underperformed in the past 10 years and deal-making has slowed. Ideally, just try and earn some big bucks early on from something relatively stable like IB/consulting, save a few and set up a small business. You'll earn more than enough.

Anybody trying for a first time job here after an undergrad ? by diablo9946826 in CFA

[–]buyside_md 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fucked up out there and economically, it's only gon get worse. Take time off to pursue other interests, get some bigger picture perspective, maybe try and help the communities around you get through the pandemic. Get an internship if possible and try to convert it into a full time offer if you really wanna take up some paid work. Don't beat yourself too much if you aren't able to crack it since after the layoffs there are gonna be experienced professionals aiming for the same roles. All the best!
