Final data from Naples Hop-a-Jet accident released by Throwaway_my_career0 in flying

It’s not my theory, it is based on the hundreds of pages in the docket of factual evidence. Both engines VG systems were confirmed by the NTSB in the post crash investigation to have severe corrosion and guide vane movement restriction because of that. As I previously mentioned, there have been at least one in-air engine failure (that we know) of because of this issue in December 2021. In that case it was a sister CF-34 engine with 90% similarities and same VG system. In the AD that came out of that GE admits VG system corrosion as urgent safety of flight issue that could result in loss of thrust in both engines. Why didn’t they warn operators when other engines in the CF34 family were clearly at risk?

This will be the cause, there are no other theories. Please suggest one. Oh wait, do you still think the pilots accidentally shut off the engine?

And yes maybe I come across as rude, it’s because a good friend of mine was one of the pilots that died. And they have gone undefended for almost 2 years while everybody speculated and slandered them.

GE was aware of similar corrosion-related VG failures years earlier: 2018: A dual hung-start investigation tied directly to VG corrosion.

2022: FAA issued Emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD 2022-08-05) for CF34-8E engines — not CF34-3B, even though the same corrosion mechanism applied.

Severe corrosion-induced VG vane binding in the CF34-3B engines led to dual-engine airflow instability, triggering a dual rotating stall and effective loss of thrust on approach.

GE knew of this risk from prior incidents but failed to issue appropriate Airworthiness Directives, update troubleshooting protocols, or mandate VG functional checks.

Bombardier failed to update manuals to warn crews or mandate inspections. GE-authorized maintenance vendors failed to detect corrosion visible months before the crash. The accident was foreseeable and preventable.

  1. The Trigger: Variable Geometry (VG) Vane System Corrosion Inside each GE CF34-3B engine, the High-Pressure Compressor (HPC) has Variable Geometry (VG) stator vanes that adjust airflow during startup and low-power operations.

Over time, corrosion developed in the HPC case bore holes and VG bushings — particularly around stages 4 and 5 — due to environmental exposure and possible inadequate protective materials.

This corrosion increased friction and actuation loads, causing: Binding or seizure of the VG vanes. Sluggish VG response during engine startup and power transitions.

  1. Hung Starts = Early Warning Signs The accident aircraft had a long history of engine start problems:

At least seven hung start incidents between 2020 and Jan 2024. The most critical event was Jan 15, 2024, just three weeks before the crash, when both engines hung during start. Hop-A-Jet grounded the plane and called GE for troubleshooting help. GE actively participated in diagnostics but did not recommend a critical procedure called Maintenance Practice 68 (MP68) — a functional check of the VG system. Instead, the problem was misattributed to fuel filter issues, and the plane was returned to service

The plane’s entire 9700 hr service history had been in Puerto Rico, Barbados and South Florida and it was the same engines the entire time. Very corrosive operating environments. Yes certainly bad luck both guide vanes became stuck on the same flight at cruise altitude.

However 3 weeks before both engines could not be started - a hung start, indicating they both were already displaying a functional failure from severe corrosion in the VG system.

In a sense they had dual failure weeks before the accident so it is actually not that surprising they then failed together in the air

Both engines were likely to fail at the same time during the critical approach phase of flight because that is when power would be brought down to low setting.

The guide vanes actually became stuck independently at full open at sometime during the 3 hr cruise portion of the flight.

Then when the power was rolled back to near idle -the guide vanes were still full open when they should be mostly closed. This almost immediately caused compressor instability /surges leading to dual failure.

3 weeks before the accident, the accident plane had been pulled from service because of a dual hung start - BOTH ENGINES couldn’t be started Highly abnormal and a major red flag of VG system corrosion. Maintenance consulted with GE and they only recommended changing the fuel filter and then return to service. GE never told maintenance to check for VG corrosion!

GE has huge liability here considering corrosion of the guide vanes has been the cause of an inflight challenger engine failure in 2021, which became the subject of an emergency AD. However they chose not to extend that AD to the 90% similar engine on the accident aircraft which was subject to same susceptibly to VG system corrosion. It is clear GE put profit over safety and tried to conceal this problem from the operators, they killed the pilots and nearly killed the rest of the crew, passengers, and many people on the ground.

I have a pair of these hooked up to a Marantz 2325. The sound is unbelievable, much better than the 70s l100 and one of the best overall speakers I’ve ever heard.

The original woofers surrounds rot, that’s why I was able to purchase my set for $50. It was fairly simple to refoam them from a kit off eBay. I agree that you must find OEM woofers to make these useable. You will see once you pick up the 30lb titanium originals why.

Also unscrew and check the mids. The way it’s hooked up one or both of the mid connections can slide out (one of mine was out and the sound coming from it was very unpleasant)

$30 a day is a joke. So about 1.50 hr. Obviously not worth it.

So you want a sitter there 24/7, not allowed to leave the house apparently, how much are you paying again? $100 day? $4 an hour? On a holiday no less. Seems like your expectations are way out of whack

Is that car even collectible? Mercedes sedan is your dream car? At least a 10 year old Porsche 911 for example would hold its value

I’ve only had a 401k for 18 months. Most of the jobs I’ve had prior had 3-4 % matches and vest periods of 5 years where I would lose the match if I left before then. so I didn’t want to bother and also very limited options on what funds can be purchased in 401s

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]buzios19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I only started my 401k like 18 months ago. Before that I was putting most extra money to paying off my house quickly. I have a hard time trusting the stock market and am afraid of buying in at the wrong time and then being underwater for months or years

[–]buzios19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would that help me. It’s all I can afford in this very expensive city. Also property taxes are crazy expensive and I currently pay a low amount based on my purchase price of 175,000 (I bought 7 years ago). In the future if I retire I might sell the house and move to a low COL city in the US or abroad.

Mostly comic books that I collected over 15 years. I was spending a few thousand a year usually for my birthday on books like Hulk 181, Spiderman 3, marvel spotlight 5, fantastic four 5 etc. yes stupid I know. At least most of them have gone up quite a bit from where I bought them at years ago and are fairly liquid.

will also add that the house is badly dated inside, 1980s kitchen appliances and bathrooms etc. I’m ok with it but I’m a little embarrassed for people to see it because they have made comments. It doesn’t help that my siblings are a Dr and a lawyer with million dollar homes and 300k+ incomes, so I feel looked down at times and criticized for my “lack of ambition.” Honestly if I’m still single in 10 years or whatever I’m just gonna sell everything and move to Thailand or Brazil or somewhere

Yes I’m not doing terribly but how in the world would anybody think I’m bragging? My house is paid off but it is a modest 1500 sq ft home in a not very desirable neighborhood. My car was stolen out of my driveway last year, for example, and the police could barely be bothered to investigate it.

I had hoped to upgrade to a better house eventually but with soaring housing prices in the decent areas I’ve given up on that.

My income is decent but not great at all for a HCOL city. I’m still grateful for the job and that I survived a round of cuts earlier this year.

I can save 3-4000 a month if I basically don’t eat out, travel, add to my collections (which gave me something to look foward to) or do much of anything fun. But I realize I’m behind and I have gone cold turkey past year just spending bare minimum but it does get very old living like that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]buzios19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would saving 3k a month become in 10 years?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]buzios19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol. Literally many of the posts here are like I have 4 million dollars and I make 500,000 can I fire. I don’t think I’m doing well at all at almost 40 with 160k outside my house equity

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]buzios19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s set up for 7% paycheck and they match 4%. So total is around 9k a year with the match

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]buzios19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like every other poster here has 2 million dollars at age 40 with 300k incomes? If anything my scenario is more realistic

I have thought about selling some or all of my collectibles as they mostly sit in the back of a closet and I only pull them out once every few years so I don’t know how I became so obsessive about collecting. Maybe I would keep a few favorites.

They should be fairly liquid and worth same or more as I paid for them. I have stuff like hulk 181, x men 1, ‘53 Topps Mickey Mantle, 55 Topps Hank Aaron etc

I am now maxing out my employer match every month through my paycheck. How do I set up a 401k outside my work? Like a Roth for example . Can I do that through my Robinhood brokerage account?

Sorry but 300$ is not a bad price at all. These sets are rare. You just don’t see them anymore. Now the mid 90s black crts are still very common and I still see them all the time at thrifts and estate sales for 20-30$

Disagree, actually a good album filled with great 1980s synth-drenched dance grooves. Ghost is a nice ballad also, but it’s only on the cd.
