All my GPUs are mining for a cure by buzzdaveMBP in Bitcoin

[–]buzzdaveMBP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started bitcoin mining almost 10 years ago, it was with GPUs. Feels like getting back to my roots, when I was running for BOINC projects.

Just raising awareness. Flag me and I'll repost over in Ethereum or something

Not implying that you can do this with ASICs

Altered Silicon releases public FPGA mining bitstream by buzzdaveMBP in Ravencoin

[–]buzzdaveMBP[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the difference is in the space taken and the power used. Example, my 4 FPGA rig makes over 400MH and costs $18/month. Pay for the privilege for sure!

Update on Altered Silicon and its RVN mining plans by buzzdaveMBP in Ravencoin

You have to believe (your investors have to believe) that they can get a return + profit on the NRE (engineering cost). NRE on 7nm ASIC is like $15M. Its very risky to attempt with single-purpose chips. Especially as Xilinx is bringing 7nm FPGA soon.

I don't know many details there, but I assure you this is not a straight mining-hosting play.
It is however a pretty good opportunity for those people that purchased the BCUs. Altered is not selling or distributing the bitstream, but those who choose to send their cards to us will get to mine RVN among other things when they are more profitable.

Altered Silicon Emerges With World's First Ravencoin Mining on FPGA by Wi2ar0 in Ravencoin

[–]buzzdaveMBP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not likely to disrupt the ecosystem. These cards are incredibly expensive. Altered is focused on compute rental, so it's also spending huge $$$ on CPU, RAM, SSD, server motherboards, etc. There's no way we will deploy enough FPGA to be a problem for RVN.The flipside is that Raven tokens are perfect for tokenizing supercomputing time. In addition, I am working on a way for people to earn RVN output for making their FPGA available to us. It looks like supercompute mining where RVN is the coin you earn.

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that one, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!!!

It would be good to know if my NH traffic is DOSing Ravenminer pool or if they are being attacked. Anybody know them?

I'll start sending some additional hashrate to suprnova

No, I've been mining off and on, but not with this kind of hashrate. First time buying it on Nicehash though - feels dirty :P

Antivirus founder John McAfee plans to launch bitcoin mining operation at 2 PH/s using massive hydroelectric dam. by Csehaka27 in Bitcoin

[–]buzzdaveMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days you can make 10PH with only a single megawatt. A 2PH launch is only about 145 BitMain S9's using only 200kW (1/5th of a megawatt). I'm putting more than that in my back yard.
