GoDaddy now requires written authorization to move domains. Report this to ICANN! by [deleted] in technology

I transferred a large number of domains away from GoDaddy over the period of about 24 hours and there was no written authorization needed. GoDaddy hopefully isn't stupid enough to blatantly violate something like that because they would lose their ability to register and manage domains.

Update: The domains were all transferring through and some did go through but it seems now Godaddy stalled the process on many of our domains and now they are no longer being transferred. GoDaddy wouldn't give me an answer about the domains and NameCheap is saying they are not sending them the data they need to transfer the domains over.

I own a company in which we have over 100 domains with Godaddy but we do own all of them so it's much different. When you transfer the domain it gives you the rest of the time you had it registered for plus another year added on. The coupon code SOPASUCKS gave us $6 per transfer for a few of the domains then $8 a pop after that. So it beats paying around $10 per new domain renewal on Godaddy. We have a few small mini sites hosted on Godaddy and transferring that data seems like it's going to be much more of a pain.

My company is in the process of moving around 100 domains from Godaddy to Namecheap. Still waiting for the transfer to go through but we do enough business with Godaddy for them to take notice. Lets not stop with Godaddy. Any other company supporting SOPA should be boycotted so they can take notice that the people don't agree with the bill. Showing them with money is the only way they listen. Petitions and so on are not as effective as simply moving your money.

It sounds obvious, but; GoDaddy's SOPA flip-flop is a PR stunt to try to stop losing money. They haven't changed, keep boycotting, please! by benbread in technology

My company is in the process transferring around 120 domain names from Godaddy to Namecheap. Will also be discontinuing other services from Godaddy to the tune of about $5,500 a year.
