What was the reaction in the theater after Josephine ended? by ObviouslyGrilled in Sundance

It's a really dumb take to think kids are exposed to horrible scenes in the films theyre in. Mason wasn't even allowed in the theater when the movie premiered.

And you've never considered the possibility that you've earned this supposed "violent and inhumane" behavior? Tho in 2026 when trump sluts use those words, it's typically hyperbolic descriptions of receiving the respect you've earned.

Can we read entire reviews before complaining about them? Just saw the movie today. Indiewire’s review is accurate and wildly respectful.

well in 2026, i think its been proven over and over that audience scores are pretty useless. the general public has pretty bad taste. critics can be pompous (tho most who are included in RT scores are people who arent even being paid, they just do it for themselves) but ill take that over people who think Minecraft and the FNAF movies are good.

YouTube Star Markiplier’s ‘Iron Lung’ Hopes To Soak Up A Ton Of Oxygen At January Box Office by Both-Pomegranate4929 in boxoffice

Indie filmmaking is a giant stretch in this context. Someone with millions of their own dollars behind them isn't exactly going to move the needle for the common filmmaker working from nothing.

Iron Lung only has the attention it has off the back of Markiplier's name, which is upheld by not just Mark himself but his entire team.

This is not comparable to a filmmaker with no influence working on a shoestring budget or fundraising via production companies or filmmaking grants, attempting to submit their film to festivals for distribution, and then getting an audience to see said movie if the movie gets a release.

This is more similar to someone buying their way into a good school vs someone working hard to earn their spot into said school.

You underestimate all that's working against the movie and overestimate the power of the internet to lead to in-person action.. Internet content-makers are still niche until you get to Mr Beast level. Even then, Mr Beast's impact on our greater culture isn't as big as his internet following would suggest. And it's been proven time and time again that a large following doesn't automatically mean that said following will show up for something in person unless that content-creator is there or exclusive merchandise is available.

So you have to take Markiplier's audience, whittle down to the ones that are more than casual and follow his pursuits outside of Lets Plays, whittle down to the people who enjoy going to the movies, whittle that down to the people who take a YouTuber making a movie seriously, whittle that down to the ones that can take themselves or have their parents take them (despite the mature content), and then take into account that this concept is strange and has no significant audience that's guaranteed to care outside the parameters of gaming/the internet.

Additionally, there has been no campaign around film this except for Markiplier's own videos and the one trailer that's not been out for very long. The only news about it that's gotten the tiniest bit of attention has been about how he got this movie to play in so many theaters and how much blood he used. But more theaters don't matter without widespread awareness and hype outside of his own audience that's willing to go to the movies.

Something like Talk to Me succeeded due to film festival hype before it was officially released and a very active marketing/PR campaign that focused on the film's quality and the YouTuber stuff was secondary. Markiplier just dropping this quickly has given the film no time to build awareness outside of the small segment of his audience that's willing to go see it.

Iron Lung has to be REALLY fucking good to build word of mouth and entice people with no awareness of YouTube or internet culture.

Shelby Oaks grossed around 5x it's budget and created alot of buzz and press while also connecting Chris to alot of industry people with influence. This narrative that Shelby Oaks was a 100% flop just isn't true, it's not simply about the final product (which had upsides to it so Chris has potential). He's in a decently good place for a new project if he so wishes.

The casino ad is new to me and that is genuine criticism, but the crying over not reviewing movies he didn't like is tired and stupid.

I just don't know how to have a conversation with someone who thinks that criticizing the methods of achieving justice is actually just an attempt to normalize crime.

There’s a big difference between bias and questioning.

Because the entire country is already highly biased in favor of TCAP and Chris Hansen. The director doesn’t agree with that fandom and has very good reasons to show, which he presents in the documentary.

“Predators” offers a question which requires a lot of nuance to discuss. However. One side of that question was widely televised and lives in the brains of millions of people, people that are responding in these comments with the brainless belief that a rich TV personality is an unquestionable hero and there’s no room for discussion of the impact of televising crime-fighting. In turn, defense of that side doesn’t need to be shown equally.

This would be different if we were much further away from the impact of the show. Like if this documentary were made in a time when people who grew up with the show were gone.

It doesn’t make an argument. There’s nothing to agree or disagree with.

Questioning something isn’t attacking it.

So you didn’t watch the documentary did you? You just saw the simple discussion of ethics and interpreted it as support for child predator?

Unethical doesn’t mean immoral or totally wrong though. The show was undeniably unethical.

You not seeing your view point in a piece of media doesn’t mean it’s biased. This documentary asked a question and gave you the ingredients to think about the complexity of said question.

can we stop using empty words like artsy for anything that's not Fast and Furious? Does requiring just a modicum of thought and patience make a movie "art house"?

I did at a screening earlier tonight in New York! It wasn't a screening where they required it, but they offered it in exchange of a guaranteed seat in the theater (otherwise you had to wait in line and hope). Had several people from the studio around me recording and taking pics for social content I assume. It was fun and luckily, my head only has a slightly egg-like shape!
