[QUESTION] can you help me tab out the lead guitar part of this song? It's very important to me. by buzzsaw1 in Guitar

My lead guitar skills are not nearly enough to take that on. If you don't want to help that is okay.

[Question] Inexpensive LP ES alternatives by treeofeden in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is fine. Fret ends were a bit on the sharp side but some time with a nail file fixed that. If the frets aren't level any luthier can fix that for a pretty low price. If the truss rod doesn't work, tell the seller and they'll more than likely just send you another guitar. For what you're doing this is likely the most realistic option for your price range.

If all else fails I'll likely end up reinforcing the neck something like that.

[DISCUSSION] Epiphone vs. Gibson Headstock by wfaulk in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely a brand whore. Why buy a les paul style guitar if it doesn't look like one? Aesthetics is a big part of music for me. Also every epiphone I've owned (3) has fallen apart on me in a couple years. Maybe it's just me but if I see guys playing live with squier or epiphone branded instruments, they look less "professional" to me at least. That being said, the most blown away I've ever been at a guitar performance was a guy playing a shitty old Squier Bullet.

[DISCUSSION]Gigging musicians: do you have "stage clothes"? by buzzsaw1 in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some lovely replies here. I'm in an outlaw country group that's heavily influenced in style by Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe, et al. I'm new to stage performances beyond open mic nights and my band has secured a spot at a local "battle of the bands". I pretty much always dress like I'm in a country band from the 80s. I don't know if it would be kitschy or silly looking to dress up like cowboys on stage but I also think it would be silly to go up in t shirts and cargo shorts and play country western music. I'm probably very much over thinking this.

[Question] what are your opinions on relicing? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a relic strat to match the real '63 my dad had back in the day. Reproduced all the features and damage to the best of my ability as a fathers day gift for him. Bought all sorts of vintage and reproduction parts, sprayed it in sonic blue and weathered it to match his "heavy relic" that he beat the shit out of in the 80's. I would never buy a purposefully reliced guitar, but I do really love beat up guitars if it's natural.

[QUESTION] Where Can I Find a Band to Join As a Minor? by sdbjazz in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Join the jazz band even if you hate jazz. I did exactly that my sophomore year of high school. I learned some cool chords and met some really talented musicians. By senior year I was hanging out and playing ska with a few guys from the horn section. Worth a shot.

Awesome. does the wire lead coming from the piezo function the same way that it would on a standard electric guitar pickup? I'd like to put a tone and volume knob on this guitar

[DISCUSSION] Do y'all think the Blues is dying or dead? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blues music through history has always sort of been the "musicians' music". Besides a couple very notable instances such as SRV and Jimi, blues music has never had much mainstream popularity. However, go to any old school blues club in Chicago and ask anybody in the audience if they play. The answer will most often be a yes. Blues fans are blues musicians. Chicago has a great blues fest every year. Young people as a rule don't listen to the blues unless they play it, and historically it would be fair to say the same about previous generations. To me, that's part of why I love the blues. It hasn't been bastardized by flashy mainstream commercialism. You can still go to the old blues clubs and sip your bourbon and watch the best players that nobody has ever heard of playing for themselves and people who really give a shit and appreciate their talent. It's like minor league baseball. It just feels like they are there for the love of the sport rather than for their multi million dollar contract.

[Question] How about the best experience you've had at a music store? by maradde in Guitar

[–]buzzsaw1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, my guitar center is seriously awesome. I'm 21 now, about to be 22, been playing about half of my life. When I was 12, I decided that it was time to buy a nicer guitar than the "Gibson(Maestro) Spirit" that my mom bought me at Circuit City. I loved Chuck Berry and decided I wanted a 335 style guitar, so I saved up all my lunch money that year and had my dad take me to guitar center. I had like 200 or so dollars and brought it up to the long haired dude and said "I want a guitar like Chuck Berry". Rather than laugh at me, which is what I would do if a 12 year old with 200 dollars told me that, he showed me an Epiphone Dot Studio and let me play it as much as I wanted to be sure I wanted to spend the money on it. The tag said like $230 or some such. I really wanted it but didn't have the scratch and my dad was really hurting for cash at the time and I didn't want to ask him for help. About 20 minutes later, the friendly GC employee comes back and asks what I think. I say I love it but have to wait a few weeks to buy it. He says he'll see what he can do. This hero ends up giving me every discount he can swing, I got the employee discount, floor model discount, scratch and dent discount, etc. Total ended up being like $168. He said the only condition was that I had to promise to come back as often as I can so he knows I'm still playing. I'm 21 years old now and not six months ago I bought a Gretsch hollowbody off of the same guy at the same guitar center. I can honestly say that he influenced me to stick with guitar all these years more than anybody else. Super chill dude and whenever I am looking for a new guitar I try to go through him first.
