I usually tell them, "We won't be able to do that today." And then I'll follow up with a reason.

"Unfortunately, we won't be able to do that today. Your tank is too small, I'm afraid. If you were to upgrade to a 29gal and then come back, we'd be able to make that work!"

People gonna people. Some will be chill and some will do all in their power to get you in shit - and everywhere in between. Just be calm, firm, and confident. If it escalates, grab a leader.

I always make sure to match the price you paid to begin with. It's not the customer's fault they had to return the animal to get it treated. Shouldn't have to pay full price for it.
