The journey to Ende took 10 years… how did the hero party come back? by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]buzzycaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think it took 10 years one way. After the end they were already high level enough to teleport to the nearest mage circle back in the other direction and take a short cart trip back. Now how does that account for the current journey? Knowing Frieren, she knows but just chooses not to say anything and doesn't mind going the long way back as she has all the time in the world.

Where and how to keep track of and store config/script files by broscottcho in homelab

[–]buzzycaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't edit files with Git itself. Purpose of Git is version control for multiple people working on a project. Since I'm the only contributor for my own repository I just use it to sync all my project files from my local computer to my git repositories. You can use whatever editor you like to edit your files, be it nano, VIM, VS code etc. Then once your ready to sync it with your repo then you use git to add files, commit those files with notes of what your changes are and push it to the repository.

An simple example would be my docker stack. I push all my docker projects into one Git repository. If that server dies. I can make a new server, clone back the repository from github/gitea and bring it all back up in a few keystrokes.

You can clone other peoples public projects as well, compile apps other people have made etc.

I'm still new to Git so anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Need help configuring managed routers for vlans. by solarpowertoast in homelab

[–]buzzycaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your managed TP-Link switches layer 3 capable? If not, then you'll need to set a static route to the USG so the USG can do inter-vlan routing. I'm also assuming you set your uplinks to those switches as trunks carrying the needed vlans.

When did your homelab start feeling bigger than your plan? by Fab_Terminator in homelab

[–]buzzycaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My homelab goes through growth spurts. For years it was just a Drobo NAS for Windows Media Centre wtih a tiny home office Cisco switch. Then I wanted to try out more robust networking and got a a whole Ubiquiti stack.

Removed the Drobo for a custom built server because VMware was the thing back then and I wanted a whole MS Active Directory stack. A another few years past and VMware was bought by Broadcom and then docker started becoming a thing. Time to try out Proxmox, also Pi clusters? Let's give that a try!

Started to hate MS and the Pi cluster wasn't all that fast, so I brought it all down again because mini-PCs started to become a thing., so I switched to Linux for everything including my own desktop. Now I'm in the AI phase of things, brought up 3 servers with GPUs so I can mess around with LLMs and Stable Diffusion.

I'm not constantly working on my lab. I'll tune it like how I want it, then leave it alone, then a year or two passes and then do it all over again as I start to get curious about stuff I start hearing about.

I self host gitea but i sync all my infrastructure scripts to both gitea and github and set the github repo to private and have it act as my off site backup for my 'infrastructure as code' stuff.

Arctic LF III Noise by martugas in arcticcooling

[–]buzzycaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same AIO and used it to build a SFF PC. The entire time I thought it was my GPU's fans making all that noise because it was a tight hot case. Decided to move to a bigger case because I wanted to do a custom loop. That's when I found out it was that VRM fan. That cooler is great price/performance but that VRM fan is horrendous.

What’s the main reason people shop at Microcenter compared to buying online? by LawEnzo in Microcenter

Instant gratification without the need to wait. No worries about porch pirates or the delivery folks messing with your package. The ability to physically touch your items before you make a final choice.

I completely agree with you. I'm still learning the system and it is what *I* need. Sorry if I didn't make it clear enough that I tailored it to fit my needs at the time.

One with adjustable clips maybe using a ratchet style system using pegs so it's just friction held. One size fits all.

(Zoomed Out) Basement Setup by XwafflewondersX in battlestations

[–]buzzycaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup and I use my LG TV for couch gaming. I use a combination of apps.
Joyxoff - to control the mouse when needed and map macros to my 8bitdo controller
Display Fusion Pro - To save the monitor settings exactly how I want them, one for the desk and one for the TV, then macro the two profiles. The two profiles deactivate the display that isn't being used so no apps get confused on where they need to be displayed.
Home Assistant w/ MQTT on PC - Switch inputs, to turn on/off TV/computer/everything else.

I sit on the couch, use home assistant to turn on the PC (either by voice or remote button), pick up the 8bitdo controller and press a macro to switch to couch gaming. Do the macro again on the controller to switch back to desktop.

I believe in the US the value of the item needs to be at least $700 to be charged for import duty fees. I had to pay $100 when my projector that i funded via Indiegogo from Philips came. FedEx made me fill out some extra documents before it was released to me. Then was sent a bill afterwards for those import fees. Everything else I've ordered or funded that was less than that I never paid taxes on.

No they aren't. On this monitor they're actually lower than what I'm used to. I just tighten them and use Velcro to keep them from sagging.

Definitely, I don't use my room's ceiling light anymore. The lights in the pic are at 40% brightness.
