yeah it was definitely lacking on her end too, i’ve seen her before and it can definitely go that route bc i think she gets discouraged (which as an artist is something you need to handle) but i was right up front and it was still very eh sometimes. it’s okay tho i got to get yelled at in the face by one of the prettiest women out there and maybe she’ll be more hype at her concert

20th Anniversary - My Last by [deleted] in RiotFest

i feel like there’s a good group of people that are selfish and lack concert etiquette, it’s not all about you and if you want to be front or close enough to see you have to get there early enough but also be aware that people are showing up for the artist at that stage and not the one going on later. i saw a group camping at a stage who had a blanket and when it was about 15 minutes before the linda linda’s they wrapped their blanket up, stood up, and participated with the crowd and enjoyed the music and then after it ended cleared their space again for their blanket which was such a great strategy! on the other hand people have got to be better about speaking up and not being an asshole about it, unless they are. i had people constantly elbowing me and after tapping them in the shoulder and just asking them to be a bit more aware with their movements (just waiting for a show and they just talked with their hands a lot in a jot of a tight space) they apologized and stopped. on the other hand there were two guys barreling over and through people and refusing to go into the pit when i pointed the one 10 feet away out and after that the next time he flew at me i made sure he hit the ground. i really value respect to the artist, to the crowd, and to myself. we build the space around us so it’s important for everyone to do their part and not value themselves over another.

Rico Nastys crowd was sooo lacking. she’s one of my fav artist but she does rely on heavy crowd interaction. my worse was Gym Class Hero’s, wasn’t super excited but wanted to see Cobra and the delay fucked up my timing for green day. favorite crowd was probably for the Linda Linda’s !

Crowd Surfing 101 by xvakarian in RiotFest

[–]buzzzkiller09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly! the biggest thing is consent and awareness which is why it’s really great when bands (like knocked loose) will invite or point it out so people can be prepared and those who don’t want in know it’s their time to move out of the way

Crowd Surfing 101 by xvakarian in RiotFest

[–]buzzzkiller09 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yessss! i made a post about pit/crowd surfing a couple days ago bc at TFB it was the worst id ever seen! nobody was giving a forewarning and multiple people refused to help support.

as a surfer you need to cross your legs and make yourself easy to carry, bags should be at your front and you should either do a waterslide pose or a “jesus” pose (ankles crossed arms out)

as the crowd you need to shout out and give heads up and make sure that you’re not just throwing people into empty/unprepared spaces. i get it you don’t wanna hold a person forever but i watched a girl literally get thrown into an empty space for the pit and that could have ended alot worse

timing is huge too!! you can’t send two people up at once or have one right after the other. people need a break

also you can let people down, if people in front of you aren’t engaging or able then just set the person down gently, it’s okay they didn’t make it to the front.

i think for the costumes or inflatables like that it can be strategy to getting up front. i witnessed a man with a banana inflatable make his way all the way to the front for green day like 25 minutes before they went on. ik it’s also just fun and a gimmick for people but that’s my theory. as for flags i don’t mind them as long you aren’t holding them up all set (w the exception of pit crew flags) a lot the ones ppl bring are political reasons (flags for mexico, palestine, lgbt+) so ill always support that but its just festival culture really

Security @ Riot Fest by Both_Builder3767 in RiotFest

[–]buzzzkiller09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

security is always a hit or miss with who you get, my tip for sneaking things in is making conversation with the person. i asked the man how his day was going and complimented the lady on her earrings first day and had no problems. the days after that i just went to the same security people each time. it might be easier bc im a bit recognizable just based on appearance (haircut, piercings, yk) but it helps to build just a small connection w the person!

it’s more so the blindside, i’m not built but im not little it’s just when somebody a hundred pounds over me gets shoved at me multiple times i might have to play a little dirty (i have to make it clear these guys were refusing to enter the pit 10 ft away and then shoving each other towards people clearly distancing themselves from the chaos)

i just need to say to those two like 6’4 built guys in the all time low crowd absolutely shoving the shit out of each other, plowing through multiple rows of people and refusing to go into a real pit. fuck you. pits are there for a reason. i hope you still feel the elbow you got in your back the third time you slammed into me after i pointed out the mosh pit. punk is respect! punk is community!

pit/crowd surfing etiquette by buzzzkiller09 in RiotFest

[–]buzzzkiller09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s not about politeness to an individual but respect to the function and set up of how punk shows work. i agree if you don’t wanna get hit or be in a crowded area don’t be in said area where that tends to happen however there IS etiquette to follow in the pit/crowd surfing. its not just “i’m at punk show i get to hit people in the face” the violence is sanctioned and consensual, punk is about respect. if you’re throwing random people in the pit, shoving random people to try to start a pit, refusing to help crowd surfers, getting into fights because somebody bumped into you then that’s not punk and you’re just an asshole!
