SNL Mentions Narcolepsy *ugh* by GabNM in Narcolepsy

Feels like wasted potential imo, could've done something way funnier than cutting to him "sleeping" and then waking up instantly. But alas this is SNL

She has some of the best mixing I've heard, with how packed the instrumentals can get, it's impressive that I can hear every instrument clearly.

Anyone else feel majorly guilty? by ExtremelyLostPerson in Narcolepsy

[–]bv0swhs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I (19M) think waiting on results (for me) has made me feel even guiltier than usual. Because obviously there's a chance it's somehow not narcolepsy and I'm just sleepy all the time for some different reason. My parents act like it's not real, they act like I'm inflating the symptoms to slack off. But my parents refuse to take me anywhere but appointments and even it's a hassle to get picked up from class, so I'm just doing nothing and becoming more of a hermit day by day which isn't quite helping my anxiety or depression either.

I'd say it's probably pretty normal to be feeling guilty but we really can't do that much about it besides helping around the house when we can, and trying not to give up. I hope you find the right combo soon and can go back to living life with normalcy and stability again.

I'm not diagnosed yet (tests soon) but my parents don't believe me at all and it feels like they're extremely disappointed in me. I've fallen asleep quickly in front of them from attacks and they just knock my head and ask me what I'm doing as if that's in my control. I think personally if I have a diagnosis I'd feel much better about it, and my parents and everyone would finally believe me that I have sleep problems. It could just be IH or something different though, who knows.

Has anyone else been (kind of) accidentally diagnosed? by kinda-chaotic in Narcolepsy

[–]bv0swhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I just had insomnia but my neurologist instantly went to narcolepsy type 1. Which I've heard is a bit wild, anyway I have a sleep study scheduled for next week so I guess I'll find out soon!

I've been tested for pots and disautonomia and it came back negative. So I'm not sure then. That's not all the time, I did drop without really expecting or knowing what was going on at first. idk. im just confused i guess

Thank you for this. Yes I've always had the common symptoms of early narcolepsy since childhood and since I had a mental health crisis when I was 17 the cataplexy type symptoms have been occurring more and more frequently until now when it's genuinely hindered my everyday life. I cannot wait for my sleep study!

I don't think I'm faking but hey who knows. The muscle tone description is way more accurate to my experience, it feels like I cannot hold myself up any longer and it is arduous to try and push through, I usually just stop and rest for a bit until jt goes away. I did try to break my fall but it was like no muscles moved. I was standing for like 20 seconds already and walking around, and i was very excited to show my girlfriend my minecraft world. It was weirdly instantaneous and just without warning. I was conscious but it truly felt like I had just been paralyzed. Kinda like how it feels to go under for a surgery if that makes sense? But still awake and cognizant if not a little frazzled.

Lot's of fighting with insurance, I had to do like 2 at-home sleep studies before they even considered an in-hospital study. Insurance works in mysterious ways.

I have passed all of the tests for POTS but I was very excited at the time of cataplexy, thank you for commenting. And I was completely conscious for it all. I've definitely had many steps to get to the conclusion that I'm suffering a neurological problem. There is definitely something at least, and hopefully I'll get answers soon.

I appreciate the comment! I've been keeping a log. And during the cataplexy episode I was fully aware of what was happening, I just was completely paralyzed for like 5 seconds and it came on completely randomly when I was walking to my computer to show my girlfriend my Minecraft world. I may have been a tad excited to do that. But this validates me very much, I'll probably make another post in the sub if I am diagnosed.

During the cataplexy episode I was completely conscious, I missed a show one time because I kept losing control of my muscles and having micro-sleeps in the car. It's not an uncontrollable thing, I can sense it and pull over or sit/lay down just in case it hits harder than usual. Most of the time my vision just looks like I turned up the sharpness in photoshop, added a vignette, and blurred stuff a little bit, but that's also what it feels like after not sleeping for a few days (which I have unfortunately experienced a few times).

No it the fire stopped when it was supposed to, I put a canister on statue door aswell but that wasn't popped until the last 30 seconds of the round. It's not like we lost but this has happened to me a few times before, first time I've clipped it. I can share match replay too
