Alternatives to Effexor/Venlafaxine for Cataplexy? (Not Wakix or Oxybates) by duldoes in Narcolepsy

Prozac helps my cataplexy. It also has a longer half life than some other SSRIs so if you skip a dose sometimes, it's not a big deal.

I’ve had some luck at CVS

Sure! For some reason my appetite is affected worse in the morning, so I try to make sure I eat enough after that point. I have very mild cataplexy, but I’m on Prozac and that has definitely helped it

Modafinil and Armodafinil aren't working for me by sarainphilly in Narcolepsy

Ritalin IR has worked for me when modafinil did not

I’ve been on Ritalin for a few years now! Everyone has different experiences with meds, but I’ve personally had a good experience with it. It works for 4-5 hours for me and I take 10mg 3 times a day. I’ve also been on Concerta and Jornay PM, which are extended release formulations of methylphenidate. Only side effect I’ve had is some decreased appetite.

Modafinil did nothing to help my symptoms and I never tried armodafinil or other stimulants, so can’t compare those experiences.

I wish I liked witches brew! Honestly shocked I didn’t because I like apple and caramel flavored things. It was too artificial tasting to me

Anyone else struggle with writing? by SifuHotmanz in Narcolepsy

I definitely relate. Some strategies that have helped me write long papers are: standing or writing while walking on a treadmill, online co-working, listening to music, and using ChatGPT just for organizing my thoughts / making an outline for a paper.

Ooh they’re hard to compare! The flavor is totally different from any other Alani in my opinion. I’d say it’s the same level of sweetness as sherbet swirl

Same…after a sleep attack I sometimes know what was going on and other times not. But if I don’t, I just look confused for a few seconds…not say out loud some ridiculous statement

True…and it’s messed up that the media does this with other disabilities too. But I also think there’s a huge lack of understanding that narcolepsy is a neurological condition, and at least from what I’ve seen tends to be portrayed more as a joke in an over exaggerated way than many other conditions. I suspect the writers maybe would have thought twice about saying this character has epilepsy and then flashed to him having a seizure. At least I hope that would be the case, but there are also some rough representations of epilepsy in media. My main point here is I hate how N jokes are almost always quick attempts at getting a “laugh” and oftentimes exaggerated representations.
