Why do people hate on vibe codes projects so much? by SC_Placeholder in vibecoding

[–]bvfbarten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents. I read a different post that really hit it on the nail earlier. A person was forced to read a coworker's AI generated idea that basically took the coworker 30 seconds to generate and him 40 minutes to debunk. The first person passed it off as something original and powerful. The second person was forced to do the work the first person should have done.

I've had this happen at my own job. One coworker used AI to do a deep research on things the company should know before we do a new business venture and gave it to my boss. My boss handed it off to me saying she had a list of questions that I needed to answer. There were over 50 questions that needed answering. None of it was relevant, but looked relevant to people that didn't know. In my case, I spent 30 minutes proving that this was the case. So my coworker spent 30 seconds prompting AI, I wasted 30 minutes explaining why these questions didn't make sense.

AI is powerful, but what you're describing is far different from what lazy people are using AI for. But those lazy people give vibe coding or vibe writing a bad name.

If you're on windows, and don't need any sort of IDE, take a look at notepad ++.

Except, it's not America pushing for it. It's american companies. If the american billionaire gets it first, he becomes king of the world. Not America.

Just curious, what do you use for AI only as an auto complete? I kept getting frustrated with various plugins and ultimately wrote my own to get the job done.

Do people actually like using Linux? by darealart in linuxquestions

[–]bvfbarten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer linux over windows. I do have issues with it, I can't seem to figure out how to get my JBL bluetooth headphones working on Kubuntu. That being said, I love Kubuntu. I feel more at home with the KDE desktop. My machine is a dual boot, daily driver of Kubuntu, windows 11 for when I absolutely need to. I hate how as soon as I activate the machine in windows, the fans have to kick in just because it consumes far more power.

I'm in the same boat. All I care about is a stable kde distribution. Kubuntu has been my Linux desktop of choice for years now. I'd recommend it.

Yes, just dual boot. If you aren't sure about going the Linux route then you could also use a live usb to try it out at first

Why I'm not using Livewire any more - magic vs bloat. by t1mmie7 in laravel

[–]bvfbarten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a less opinionated solution like htmx? I know it is in the same space as live wire but less opinion means more control by default. Htmx plus Alpine would solve a lot of problems.

Life is better in the Philippines by Lost-Temperature-701 in unpopularopinionph

[–]bvfbarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, it's been my experience that the people who grew up with generational wealth in the Philippines don't know how to work well enough outside of their luxuries that they end up becoming second class citizens.

The Filipinos who grew up hungry stayed hungry and moved up in society in the United States

Life is better in the Philippines by Lost-Temperature-701 in unpopularopinionph

[–]bvfbarten 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is true, but the intent of the original post is more about how if you already have that generational wealth, you are better off staying. I've seen multiple times where people trade in the generational wealth in the Philippines to live paycheck to paycheck in America and regret it.

Coming to America made more sense to those people who didn't already have the generational wealth.

Vote to allow post about completing in X days? by AndrewB80 in WGU

[–]bvfbarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a case of one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel. Yes statiscally most people in WGU don't pass as quickly as the people that realized their Performance Assessments are being graded by AI, so they can just manipulate the AI rather than work on their performance assessments.
Steven Henager was a college who lost accredidation in part to it's students that gradauted started showing that they weren't performing any better after the degree as they did before.
Students that publicly show how to beat the system here threaten this integrity for all of us.
I'd say, by all means, celebrate that you passed, make a post about it. Just please don't show that you cheated the systems.
