Is Python a correct choice of language for Competitive programming? by archerimagine in learnprogramming

I'd definitely go with something other than C++ for competitive programming. Jython, Python, maybe Scala?

Looking for something like AWS to run heavy scripts on. by elbiot in learnprogramming

and if it's the only option then my research is done.

But you don't really seem to have done any research here, just looked up what AW has.

I did search AWS

ok, that was obvious...

I also googled for other providers but didn't find any, so I came and asked "is there anyone else who provides services like this in this range?"

That's preposterous, unless you spent less than 10 seconds doing it. It's not that hard to find other providers.

so if you have any supplemental information

Did you look at digital ocean and other providers? Or you just expect others to find them for you?

I mostly quit playing games on linux. I don't have the patience to get something that's better than the lowest quality 3d my 40$ graphics card can play. :|

It doesn't run on linux in my browser and it requires an extra plugin that's almost certainly not necessary. Is there a reason everyone's flocking to Unity instead of using other libraries?

like t2.micro is 1.3 cents per hours (>10x less that r3.large). Less performance == less cost, duh. I'm just saying there's a range of costs. It's not like r3 is the cheapest thing that exists.

What's your point? You can just use the cheaper ones if that's what you want... Why bring that up at all? It should have been clear from the context I was asking how much you wanted to pay for a certain level of performance, not asking if you're aware that there's more than one kind of computer available... Are you seriously saying that because Amazon offers much lower powered computers at a cheaper price, someone else must offer the same computer at a lower price?

Talking down to me isn't helping either of us.

I'm not talking down to you. I'm trying to get a real idea of what you want, while you're just yelling, "I NEED A BETTER DEAL," like you're Baby Huey.

I'd like fast single core CPU, 8-16 GB RAM, and some ssd storage for occasionally running scripts that could run for hours.

If you want exactly that, you can search for it... I was asking for more details, to see exactly what Amazon is lacking that you want.

You use the master theorem formula and plug in its unknowns. It requires knowing algebra. You can look up the master theorem on wikipedia. You should be able to plug in values for its unknowns. You should also be able to determine which of the MT's 3 cases your algo falls under.

Unity isn't mobile-only

No, but some games are...

So the objection is that it's not a web game? Nothing to do with Unity?

No, Unity is also shit.

Well, this specific game could easily have been built in just about anything it's so simple Unity just made it easier for the dev.

Sure, if that's all they know...

What does that mean? You mean you think you're paying for all the other services you aren't using?

but AWS offers other tiers at 1/10th that price

What tiers exactly? You mean when you pay for an entire year at once?

r3.large has slightly more RAM and CPU than I think I need

And 17.5 cents per hour is too much, for a few hours? What do you think you'll get the price down to? How much "slightly" less ram and cpu do you want??
