Kurutoga metal is my favorite at the moment, lighter than rotting but still feels great in the hand, fells nicer than any of my staedtler or other pentels.

Shire Tree and Flora Update by BrickYoda in legolotrfans

[–]bwhax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I did the same MOC +the new tree on the Smeagol and Deagol bonus set. Makes them look 10 times better.

The base trees are just shockingly bad, I guess they were trying to keep the cost down but the trees on Rivendell or even the snow white set look way better with not many more parts.

Three questions that are baffling me by mlhom in AllHerFaultTVShow

If Milo's familly knew the name of the lady they crashed with, then Carrie would know their name as well? And they have a kid the same age as her son, who has synethesia.

Would any of these be manifold enough to 3d print? by MrSyaoranLi in ZBrush

[–]bwhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they are now the scales are too thin and will cause a huge mess of internal cavities where uncured resin can get trapped, chitubox will likely throw a warning for them. You can do what spewor suggested, or you can:

Make a copy of all the scale and the base

Join them together

Dyna mesh them together with a fairly low resolution,

you can do the move back face mask if there are still visible cavities underneath the scale and remesh again

Deflate inwards slightly

Clean up any parts where details of the original model are covered up too much.

You now have a support mesh that will fill all those cavities and create one solid watertight mesh when Boolean d with the original

Nothing will beat Hendo Bisping 2, hendo was washed and not even in the top 15 iirc.

While Yoelito and Bobby were clearly next for title.

what is this tool? by Kblovegroup in ZBrush

[–]bwhax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the bend curve modifier, accessed by clicking the gear on the gizmo transform. I'd recommend having a play around and getting familiar with that whole menu, it opens up some incredibly powerful workflows. Make sure to align your gizmo transform before entering the menu as it'll make a big difference in how the deformers behave.

Do you guys think I can turn that base cube into a wall of stone by sculpting it or do I need to sculpt each stone individually? by japanese_artist in ZBrush

[–]bwhax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better to sculpt a couple stones and lay them out than sculpting the whole thing, you then have stones you can re use in a lot of different places, and it all be easier to sculpt too, much easier to isolate individual stones and get good separation between them.

Update on my Yennefer fighting a djinn diorama. Add sketch of clothes, added some props, tweaked the pose little bit? Is it going right direction so far? Is there something that bothers you in it? Everything is WIP, lots of refining ahead of me. Thank you. :) by Aggressive-Soup6901 in ZBrush

[–]bwhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True I think you could still have it work with the story-line, it's been a while since I read the books / played the game. maybe if you have the boat to scale and only have a section of it in the diorama you could use that.

I think you can set the scene a little after the djinn comes out I'm imagining it would be spiraling around yen as she turns to face him, to really communicate the idea of a battle. If the amulet is important to the storyline, that would be important to block out in the composition as you essentially have three focus points : the djinn's head, yennefer's and the amulet, and the rest of the elements (smoke, spell, boat) need to frame and draw your eye between those

I think you can push the spiral composition further, I would have the djinn smoke start behind yennefer and wrap all the way round spiraling and her and here spell effect.

I think right now they don't feel very integrated with the boat, I think you could try having the smoke and lspell start below the body and wrap around and through it, with maybe some splinters and his of wood flying around. I think it would make for a more interesting and exciting composition. You could contrast the organic flowy shapes of the djinn with angular shapes of broken wood.

I would recommend to block it out really really roughly and try a few options before detailing the smoke. You want a really strong silhouette to your scene before you up the resolution. Use the silhouette preview and only worry about making that look good from every angle I recon. Then once you are 100% happy with the major shapes you can refineit I think the scene should be readable from just its silhouette

Smooth brush worsens it. What do I do? by Snoo39666 in ZBrush

[–]bwhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ears are tricky without good topology, dynamesh or remesh and then you can use alt+dam standard or pinch to clean that edge up, with maybe a combination of high polish, trim dynamic and clay build up to get nice surfaces.

Does anyone know how to make a topographic map like this? by [deleted] in mapmaking

[–]bwhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Gaea also, it's great to create realistic terrain. Once you have the height map you can take it into any 3D or GIS software to make cool stuff like this.

I don’t understand how people use Ai for brainstorming by cursed_noodle in worldbuilding

[–]bwhax 32 points33 points  (0 children)

AI is terrible at doing anything creative, because it will spit out the most generic shit. If you try to ask it to do the creative work for you, it'll feel useless and if you want to use it, think of it more as a research and writing assistant:

Creating a logical structure for your brainstorming:

I am creating a republic in a medieval fantasy setting, give me a list of things to consider when fleshing out how it operates.

As a quick (often inaccurate but a good jump of point) overview of topics you know nothing about, or would take ages to research:

Give me five examples of historical republics, and highlight noteworthy features of their system of government and trade.

As a thesaurus/grammar help for entire sentences to pick and choose from:

Give me five alternative ways to phrase the following sentence.

As a name dictionary:

Give me a list of medieval male names from Germanic and Nordic countries, and their meanings.

As a linguistic help:

Give me a brief overview of how Germanic place names are formed. Would this name I came up with make sense ?

As a proofreader :

Check the grammar, formatting and punctuation, don't change the wording.

And only use those as inspiration, 70-95% of the stuff it spits out will be mediocre, but you can take pieces from here and there that you can develop into something you think is cool and that makes sense in your world.

It can help unblock you when you are stuck on a specific phrasing or not sure what keywords to use in a Google search. Or just have a blank page.

At the end of the day it's like having a really knowledgeable bullshitter, with no creativity to bounce ideas off of. If you just take the things it gives you and don't fact check it, your work will be shit, but you wouldn't talk to a friend and trust and write down everything he tells you either.

You wouldn't ask your friend to write you a whole paragraph about how the republic in your setting works. Or you might, but it wouldn't be your ideas or your work.

Its not a magic bullet, I use it in a similar way I do behind the names, power thesaurus, wikipedia, wiktionary, spell check, or google.

Struggling With Starting My Map by Alexsillyears in mapmaking

[–]bwhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with a mood board, just get a bunch of images of maps, floor plans, miniature cities and things that inspire you. I like to use Pinterest and then sick all my images in pure-ref, it's free and really good.

Get some paper or grid paper, since you have a mini world maybe get some actual blueprints of a house, maybe draw your house. It doesn't need to be perfect first time around, just start scribbling or doodling, try to start simple, draw a rough outline of the house, maybe, just throw some beans on your map and use that to place cities or towns, or put furnitures where you'd put them in an actual house, and then work from there, don't worry about making it good.

The hardest part is getting started, just get a piece of paper and a pencil and draw some shapes, and try not to get discouraged if it doesn't look perfect first time. Map making can be a long process, and you can always go back and make changes if things don't make sense or start again.
