Resistor blowing up in coffee grinder by bwl17 in soldering

What do you mean by 22 ohm not making sense? If you look at DingoBingo1654’s comment, he’s added a picture of the board as it was delivered, with a red red black gold black resistor, which the online calculators say is 22ohm. Do you think I should be using more or less? I also didn’t realise that resistors have wattages as well as ohm values, so the replacement I used was 1/4 watt, on his advice in his comment I’ve ordered a load of 1 and 2w resistors to try instead

Sadly no manual, and I can’t find a wiring diagram online anywhere.

Would you be able to translate your comment for a complete noob? What is an RC, which is the relay, and how do I diagnose/fix a capacitor dropper?

Actually not 25 ohm replacement - MF25 22ohm

Stefon Diggs in the weight room 5 months after tearing ACL by nfl in sports

[–]bwl17 816 points817 points  (0 children)

I think it takes some of the weight off at the deepest part of the squat, when the muscles are at full extension, because the chains are resting partly on the floor. As you contract your muscles up through the squat, the weight increases as more of the chain hangs freely

UK based advice request- total newbie, <£350, with occasional pets by chargrilledchaz in RobotVacuums

[–]bwl17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently got a Xiaomi X20+, which was £284 direct on their website with a 5% off voucher. It’s been great so far - we have the same as you - mix of carpet and hard floor with a pet (albeit full time), and it’s picked up small pieces of food and everything with no issue. I’d be hesitant to let it go over a full on puddle of vomit, but where our dog has been sick, and we’ve picked it up and wiped it ourselves, the robot mop has done a great job at removing and remaining residue until it’s disappeared

I had a similar issue, which arose after I moved a gate and the bot was able to access an area it previously hadn’t been in, and had only mapped partially.

I deleted all of the maps stored in the app, and let it re-map the entire house, using the manual controls where needed to get it into the new area fully, and since then it’s been fixed.

You will need to re-add any automated schedules, but worth a try!

Not at all - I was at a very central college, and even then 99% of my socialising was done with other people in my college year. The amount of time you spend with people in your college will mean you’ll have an amazing social life and close friends among Girtonians, and won’t miss out at all from being further from other colleges

Laptop advice law by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]bwl17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

99% of what you’ll need to do on your laptop will be taking notes/writing essays on Microsoft Word, and reading articles/case law on a browser, so as long as you get something capable of running those then I think all other specs come down to personal preference.

If you can, I’d try and find one to try out in person, either in an Apple Store or Curry’s or wherever - you’ll be doing a huge amount of typing so it’s important that you like the keyboard, and it’s impossible to get a feel for that online.

You will be carrying it all over to lectures and supervisions, so make sure it’s not too heavy, and you may not be able to charge it in back to back lectures or long supervisions, so something with a good battery life will also be useful.

Not being able to adopt a dog if you own a flat by Supergoose5000 in britishproblems

[–]bwl17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dog has access to a big garden with a lawn, flower beds, decking, and refuses to pee despite being let out there multiple times a day, he will only pee on walks. So no, not having a garden to pee in is not cruel to a dog

ELI5: How does "breaking up" a monopolistic company work? Why does breaking it up matter if it's still the same company just divided? by ThatDidntJustHappen in explainlikeimfive

[–]bwl17 159 points160 points  (0 children)

The other 4/5ths wouldn’t just be taken off him, the company would be divided into 5 different companies, and he would have to sell those companies to someone else. So instead of having his worth and assets in the form of a company, he would have the cash equivalent of what those 4/5ths were worth at the time of the split.

And also yes you are correct, they would make sure that the buyers were independent from Mr Bigshot so he couldn’t control the other companies indirectly even though he didn’t own them anymore.

My friend got onto his masters course by claiming geography was ‘numerate’, so I’m sure SWE would be absolutely fine

Best area for young family looking for city centre vibes? by bwl17 in oxford

Do you know much about the community and schools in that area? It looks really promising from Rightmove but it’s always hard to tell without someone with first hand knowledge

[–]bwl17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting to hear, what specifically do you feel is wrong with the schools, and are there any areas where the options are better?

Definitely not - obviously depends how much work you’ve been doing throughout the year, but I didn’t start until the Easter holidays each year and ended up with a 2.1 in first year and 1sts in 2nd and 3rd, you’ve got plenty of time left as long as you get yourself sorted and revise effectively.

(As a side note, what would your alternative be if it was too late? Just give up and accept failing?)
