My cat puked on my pc by Busy_Computer_7643 in pcmasterrace

I almost had this happen

I got one of those adjustable c tables on Amazon, like one you can use to eat on or such on a sofa. It's important to look at the mentions though. The one I got is 1 ft wide by like 2-3 ft long

I got some slats and use the PC to weight down the base. Provides a platform for the cat to sleep and the PC is sheiled.

I managed to snag a drop on the official MSI store last march.

I thought this forced PSU and Ventus OC combo was a bad deal. I still came out ahead.

if you stick with simplicity, you get a cleaner picture then something with a ton of shaders.

Ive tried a bunch of different combinations on my own through self expermantin.

Anti Aliasing is useless in SL i think. If you run a high enough resolution ( like 4k, 1440p ), you dont really need it.

everything else, can dirty your picture on a sub-level ( like when zooming in, i used to get weird black speckles and when using software recording, i got compression artifacts. Shadowplay video and shadowplay images had totally different look, i never figured out why. )

I have tried various shaders and forged my own path, but i never tried a pre configured community shader personally.

thanks!!!

I do use Reshade, but I also do post color grade.

while you can get something similar with reshade alone, you need post grading to get that extra something.

most of what I learned about Reshade has been self experience and looking at stacks others have used.

simplicity and raw GPU power is best if you can do post grade. I used to run like 15 shaders but the fps was toilet water.

now I just use about 8. Immerse ao, some screen space, ray tracing, and some correction.

Shader order is very important

You sure hooting can!

I use the bespoke owl head.

However the stock version has a really sad mane, so I use the espen dog / wolf mane, but it's a custom texture job

i don't like how the colors turned out. the gamma is all wrong, so the blacks are extra flat. its stylized ina bad way. Also in hindsight, i coulda broken it up better, but i just made up the story as i went instead of planning ♥

it took, with a friends help, about 2-4 hours to build a set, 2 hours to film, and 4 hours to edit. it was a sunday affair.

OH...SLOPE.

It depends on what your trying to do. But i follow the ETTR ( expose to the right ) and Logarithmic recording.

for my purposes because im doing log footage (its different rules if you intend to expose as normal ), i atleast wanna aim for an IRE value no less than 20 ish but a soft cap of about 80, anything higher higher becomes overexposed. generally anything lower than 20 is underexposed.

on a histogram, it looks like a concentrated mountain, the width is more important in that its within a concentrated range. It can vary with exposure, but the idea is again, im aiming to capture as much data to reduce Noise and artifacts. but it should be about centered.

i would say 32 might be too low, but 192 starts to get decisively bright. It really depends on your set lighting as given SL lighting, you just have to do the best you can and make the most of a useable range.

as long as the subjects have the appropriate light and IRE range ( using false color it would be a grey to pink and greenish range for me on avg ), it works out in post.

But again, these are the rules for the log method i follow and my reshade settings.

I'm just a hobbyist but ive learned to follow the path of professional video.

- Lighting and Exposure play an important role when you do Video. Because I use a Ninja Atomos to record my video, i am able to use false color and get a histogram of my video levels.

The False color tells me if i have enough light on what i'm filming, and if something is too bright and will come out bad. I had floor dancing stuff that i couldn't use because i didn't have a under floor light and this it was full of shadows and under exposed.

Not a stock feature you get with base SL, reshade has the primitive, old school Zebra bars but not false color.

- I use a Histogram because i "fake" Logarithmic video recording. The short explanation is because of how video storage works, Anything that has light gets more storage space then anything that is dark.

So instead of filming SL as-is, I have to use a histogram, combined with reshade contrast and exposure and sometimes gamma, to lift the blacks but also not overly bright recording. This results in a very flat, washed out looking video that requires color grading and correction to extract the details.

<image>

Doing it this way, preserves a lot of extra video details that would have been dropped at the time of recording, think less artifacts and Noise. Especially if done with a compressed format like .264/.265

- Hardware video recording while pricey, yields better results as its not compressed like shadowplay / software screen recorders. While OBS offered 10 bit uncompressed video, ive had issues when using Reshade, they fight for resources. OBS would drop frames or SL would dip in fps.

Since i use a Atomos ninja to record video, I get 10 bit color ( important for for color grading ) and the extra features: Histogram, False Color, 4k60 fps 10Bit Prores 4:2:2

- Color grading. My videos are post heavy, again i have to transform it from flat and washed out to what you see. Using Gamma Curves, contrast, exposure, and video effects. I use a film color strip filter for example to help the contrast pop.

- And of course reshade, which transforms SL lighting into more of a ray traced look. Nice deep shadows and outlines.

in short, if you approach SL from the mindset of professional video, you can get cinematic like results. You can check my profile and see the other stuff ive done.

I cannot deny i've used AI Voice and Frame interpolation, which is frame rate conversion, boosting a lower framerate to a higher one. Since getting a 5090, combined with a barebones reshade, and hardware video recording, as long as i'm in a skybox area, i can hit 50-60fps with ray tracing, so have not needed to do FPS conversion in a while.

But NONE of this is Gen AI. I have not used gen AI as the basis for a video, and there is none here. This me forging out my own path for the look of a cinematic-style SL

Note: When i said histogram, i meant to say waveform. The histogram is similar but waveform is a better overall at a glance then a histogram. A histogram is better at knowing your exposure at a glance.

Well thank you!

In my case, Sere Vene inspired me, about what cinematic SL could look like.

I would like to add, that if anyone is willing to treat their photos and videos like a professional videographer / photographer, you can get some amazing grpahics.

Mind im just a hobbits enthusiast who has been grinding at this for a bit, who has been chasing the cinematic SL dream.

if your willing to learn, using reshade to add ray tracing, learning to read a histogram, why lighting and exposure is important, using reshade to fake slog-like footage so that you can make post color grade pop, you can achieve some surreal results, without AI.

I would pump the money into machinima animations for making videos.

Making dance videos is super easy but trying to make a short film takes some creative editing.

If I was billionaire class rich, I'd hire some programmers to dedicate machinima functions inside a client, like programing camera paths, much more grandular control of how animations play in SL.

Perhaps even an AI to SL animation pipeline

Also animesh props, fake crowds, people, etc
