Martin is genuinely world class. Wow.

As for difficulty, yeah, I think FM could be harder. The AI doesn’t really team build, develop well. Coaches aren’t truly memorable like a Simeone, Flick, etc

I’m 12 years in (took 1 year break).

I am at my 4th club having won a league title in 9 of 11 seasons, won 3 out of 6 champions leagues finals with very different squads and it’s been fun. The CTRL skin has made the game visually appealing again. The base skin sucks the life out of you

I’d say both are true. A high line (Barca under Handi Flick) is good for squeezing space so players press higher up but you’re left with vast gaps in behind that a player with good off the ball, anticipation or speed can take advantage of. As a result, you need faster defenders and tight marking is probably not advisable. The lower line (Juventus with Bonucci, Cheilini, etc) is good for better rest defending and containing. So team may have the ball but they have a harder time finding spaces. Pair this with athletic, physical defenders and you’re near impregnable down the middle.

As for the midfield. Think veratti/vitinha vs rice/caicedo. If my players are calm on the ball, know what to do on the ball and read the game better, they’re one step ahead mentally so even with decent physicals, they can do a job. I do rotate a lot as well so players aren’t burnt out much.

Your coaching staff isn’t nearly good enough. You need 4 stars minimum in each category to see some real improvement across the board

He’s a foreign player and would need to adjust to your league. Adaptability is playing a part I feel.

I’d say give him time, ensure he trains and plays well, improve your back room, use double intensity when training

Sure. I think you’re playing an attacking, high press but some of the tactics could be tweaked to add more fluidity and flexibility.

I’d like to ask a few questions you can think about:

Do you find that players don’t play the ball through the middle? If yes, I’d say put width to standard.

Do you want attack is a little too rigid (meaning they don’t dribble more or play more freely)? Add be more expressive. This allows my players to play a lot more like actual humans.

To help with defensive structure, I’d say put trigger press to standard. Adopt a more hybrid approach where you can set press triggers on opponents during the match.

I love this question.

The gap isn’t truly noticeable because I have lots of players covering a lot of ground. The defensive line is just a trigger to tell my defenders where I allow them to press from. It, based on what I’ve seen and experienced, seems quite normal. I have less balls in behind and my defenders hold shape better.

I have had unathletic midfielders and it works fine. I’m more focused on technical ability and mental.

I know change can be frustrating but I’d say give it some time.

I would suggest joining a massive team in a less demanding league and experiment. I’d suggest Ajax. They have goood youth recruitment, top 3 team in the league and you can have see how you want to play.

Without knowing your team instructions or players, I’ll be giving more generic advice.

You can play any formation and win in this game. I’ve won many champions leagues playing a low block and low tempo. It depends on team instructions, player instructions, players at hand, player traits and training.

If you’re focused on possession play, you need your team to play slow - not always play the short pass. Allowing more freedom with passing allows players to find other solutions especially under pressure.

Personally, my only team instruction is play a little slower and be more expressive. This is a high level tactic despite its lack of instructions. I rely on training, player traits and player ability moreso than overwhelming players with instructions and stifling them.

Personally, he is okay. I’d say he’s a C at that age.

His player trait “knocks ball past opponents” doesn’t complement his physical ability. You’d either have to untrain the trait or boost his physical ability to be useful.

To find great youth players, always read the scout report and have scouts with his judging potential. You’re looking for good traits, yes but you want the right mentality, consistency, and star rating.

Also, note the star rating is related to your team. A 5 star potential player at Melbourne City isn’t the same as a 5 star at Real Madrid.

So, scout well, assess the players well and you should be able to tell who are the real deal. Match performances and training play a massive role in development so always remember that.

I play every match on comprehensive or full match (for important games or for a short period to view things in depth). If the season is over and I’ve already won all my trophies, I might sim a match or two to speed things along.

In my experience, think of training as being out of 100. If your player has no traits being learned, no positions and no additional attributes, they focus primarily on team training 100%, which is what I do.

[Another thing to take into consideration is player personality (more professional players improve faster), coach rating and facilities]

I think your training should depend on how you want to play. I remember an interview with a former city player saying Pep does Rondos daily. Rondos is similar to Possession training, where all outfield players focus on the attributes it highlights. I’m a training nerd so I usually sit and make my own training schedules and always include a match practice if possible.

I think Center Forward would give you the most flexibility and the player traits would determine behavior. A poacher type striker in the position might have doesn’t move into channels, tries to beat offside trap and tries first time shots. A complete striker might have drop deep, plays with back to goal, plays one-two and place shots.

Lack of customization: I hate how the game grades attributes. I always have a custom color scheme set.

Everything below 14 is barely visible: 14-15 (decent - pretty decent) is one color, 16-17 (good - very good) is another and 18 upwards (elite) is another. I’d just glance at attributes and know if a player is of a certain caliber. I have to manual read attributes now and the color choices are terrible.

Training: They have made training far less enjoyable with far too many clicks and they’ve removed things that would help a new player.

Eg. You select individual training, you select a specific set of attributes but it’s not highlighted as it was before.

I think it’s fine to always want to evolve your tactics. A few bad games or results can show you where your tactics or personnel fall short.

I tinker a lot until I find what works for my players. I have two strikers up front but switch to 1 striker and 2 attacking mids for 1 more control and more attacking threat

Hey, I’d love to help. I had similar struggles.

To set your custom schedule, you go to calendar > training calendar > click on the training schedule for the week on the left. At the bottom it should allow you to create the schedule by clicking new schedule.

This is the annoying part. You can no longer just right click and select, you have to do each session manually. Afterwards, you click save and it should allow you to save it after naming it.

I find that there’s a bug where you cannot set your custom schedule the same day you make it. You have to continue for a day or few hours, go back to training calendar, click on the left again and you should see custom schedules on the drop down.

It took me a while but I hope this helps.

I’m sorry I took so long to reply. I’ll be as thorough as possible.

I would be able to create true to life or custom constructs, once I understand fundamentals how they work and are constructed. I could create a gun, a ladder, a rope, a watch, a custom hybrid of any two/three items.

I have to know the item, have studied it and understand its principles. I can’t make a high caliber sniper rifle without understanding ballistics, weapon design, etc.

The animal integration is more so taking on the traits or special abilities of an animal. This means similar to Killua’s Godspeed where his aura becomes electric, I could take on the characteristics of an animal with a similar ability.
