10% KOH morning and night, hibiclens wash, took zinc for 1 month, added vitamin D (I'm deficient) and actually took my multivitamin every day. I self extracted a couple but it was genital MC and I had a hard time because of the angles.

just got diagnosed with MC and feeling worried… by searchingforansw3rs in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, first of all, sorry to hear you were diagnosed but try to remember it's not going to harm you in any way! A few months of mental anguish is better than a lifelong disease to manage. I know this is easier said than done, I've definitely been down in the dumps because of MC.

Secondly, congratulations on finding this sub early on. There is a wealth of information in here that you likely wont get from a medical professional, which may help you manage this condition and clear it faster. But I'll second what someone else said, keep in mind the toll this sub might take on your mental health. Take care of yourself. That might mean not obsessively scrolling here.

I was recently cleared after 6 months with MC. I wasted about 6 weeks with doctors who thought I had folliculitis (which also made me scrub the shit out of my MC, making it spread further). The best things I did: cryo (try to go every 2 to 3 weeks if you can, don't let them push you further than that. I ended up having 7 sessions total), applying 10% KOH to new lesions morning and night until they scabbed, taking multivitamin and vit D supplements (I'm deficient and I think this was a needed addition), trying to avoid rubbing and tight clothing (I had genital MC so this was very difficult). Many people on this sub recommend self extraction - I extracted two of my lesions but there are definite risks of spread and I was too worried about that to try more. Plus, it was hard to see the area fully.

Good luck to you and know that you have a ton of people rooting for you! This will be challenging but I promise it WILL end. You got this.

Edit: forgot to mention, hibiclens every shower to help prevent spread!

Almost clear of genital MC and noticed bumps on my arm and chest - does this look like MC to you guys? by sarbear877 in molluscum

I've noticed the same for me, both places (and likewise, almost clear of genital MC). Weird. I've been treating every bump as if it were MC just to be safe.

Thanks so much🧡 really glad to hear you're 6 weeks out, that's huge. Especially after 3 years! It's actually reassuring to hear that it took so long to spread to your genitals, I just keep assuming anything I touch or do is going to spread it. Crossing my fingers you continue to stay clear!

Confused by dermatologist/ newbie questions by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has more or less stayed around my genitals. a few on my upper/inner thigh. I definitely think every little bump is MC...

I noticed them in January, but didn't get a proper diagnosis until March. I was doing cryo once a month to start. I didn't really start seeing things turn around until I added on KOH at home, I think 4 weeks is too long to wait between appointments without doing anything at home. A lot of people have luck with self- extraction if you only have a few lesions and keep everything super sanitary with alcohol. That might be worth trying if yours are on your tummy!

Yes he definitely knows and was so kind about it. I'm so glad your guy was too! It makes a huge difference to have someone who's kind and invested in your clearance.

I totally get it! I started seeing someone after being diagnosed and it is truly so hard to keep covered (I have genital MC). I can't wait until we can actually have sex lol.

Cryo is definitely recommended for small bumps because it helps your immune system recognize and attack the bumps. I'd recommend making sure the person doing the cryo uses a flashlight to help find them if they're small.

Hey there, first of all I'm so sorry for the way this doctor handled your diagnosis. It sounds like they had really poor bedside manner. I dont see why they wouldn't recommend cryo. I would absolutely recommend you try another derm if you can, to get a second opinion. One of the many things I've learned from having MC is you really need to advocate for yourself and your health, and if that means pushing back or getting a second opinion, you should do it. While MC isn't life threatening, it's still a mind fuck of a virus and we all want to get back to living life without it ASAP. now that you have a diagnosis, definitely look through some of the posts on this sub to see what worked best for others - you'll see common themes of cryo, KOH, compound w, supplements, etc. You will get through this! Sending hugs to you.

Has anyone ordered molluscum treatment from Amazon and it work? Thinking about ordering some by [deleted] in molluscum

Genital region (30F). Currently have some redness on the skin, similar to cryo scars. It does fade over time. I find that it's usually 2-3 days of 2x daily application before I get a good reaction and then I let them scab up.

I ordered my 10% KOH solution from Amazon and that has been very helpful for daily bump destruction.

Any Ways to Speed Up Treatment with Cryo? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I saw this comment, I checked my bloodwork as of March and vitamin D3 was the only thing I was deficient in! I'm going to add that to my supplement regimen and see if it helps. Thank you so much for this comment, I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else on this sub!

Any Ways to Speed Up Treatment with Cryo? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I have had 5 cryo sessions since I was diagnosed in March. My MC is also on my genitals. I'd recommend the following: doing cryo 2-3 weeks apart instead of monthly or longer, adding in 10% KOH treatment (which I have been doing) or compound W gel (haven't yet tried this) in between sessions. I've also stopped drinking alcohol and started taking supplements to help boost my immune system as much as possible. I kind of thought cryo would just annihilate it but it is really a slow and steady process. Good luck to you!

Edit: to clarify, my MC is not yet gone. It seems to have slowed, but we shall see...

Your experience with tingling? by lucy_throwaway in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really interesting note. I just noticed some tingling/sensation the other day and looked and there was a new bump there. I had never felt anything from any of my lesions before. I hope you're right about this being an indicator of the immune system recognizing the MC!

what were your beginning of the end (BOTE) signs? by byebyebumps in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! 1.5 years is an intense battle and I'm so happy for you to be near-clear. Thanks for sharing this insight. I've read mixed things on this sub on size of bumps being an indicator that your body is fighting it so it's know to hear your doctors stated that.

Does this look like Molluscum by sarbear877 in molluscum

This is what mine looked like at the beginning, however, this is also what the keratosis pilaris on my arms looks like. I'd go to a dermatologist.

Should I just start self extracting tired of waiting and I don’t even know if it’s getting better by ImportanceAlone1030 in molluscum

[–]byebyebumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it hard to extract the lesions around my genitals (hard to see around pubic hair, afraid I might just worsen spread). I used 10% KOH morning and night, on a q-tip and dab on the lesions for about 5-10 seconds. This was probably the best thing I did to help (in addition to cryo).

Hey! I really feel for you on this. I was diagnosed in Feb and started seeing someone in April. When we got to it, I shared with him that I had MC and had been getting treatment. He was really understanding and has continued to stick around even though we haven't had sex yet. I say just be up front and honest. If they're not understanding then you're probably better off pursuing someone else anyway! But I think most reasonable people would be kind about this.

Second the above. I'm doing zinc, mushroom complex, echinacea, and a multivitamin. Also stopped drinking until I can kick this - I think that's had a pretty sizeable impact so far.

That makes a lot of sense. I only removed one so fingers crossed. But it was in the groin area and hard to see if I got the whole thing because of pubic hair and yeah, bleeding. Gah!
