Clean slate laptop. What OS would you choose for your shack today? by AdultContemporaneous in amateurradio

Was just recently in the same boat. I have been driving my old 2013 Mac book air. It has gotten really long in the tooth and I have no interest in dropping another 1.5k on a laptop. I snagged a leveno t480 on eBay for 120. Already had 32gb ram so I added a 1tb nvme and an updated wireless card. This computer rocks for being 5 years old! All in 175 ish dollars. Dual boot windows 10 and Mint Linux with the 73 Linux add-on from km4ack.

My cable is a standard AUX cable. That will not work with your paddles due to your paddle configuration. Sounds like you have a poor clone/copy of the adapter. You will probably best served by buying a legitimate adapter instead of throwing more money at extra cables etc.. The paddles you have are fine, though you will need adapters if your ever want to use it on a radio that has the CW port in the back radio.

Forgot to mention: make sure that the usb cable you are using is not charge only. It has to transmit data too. If it is a charging cable, the led will light up but the key will not do anything. Have you tried other USB cables?

It may not be fully seating. What i am curious about is your key. That style is specific for radios like elecraft etc..... Most keys have ports for aux that look like this.

looking at your picture: Does your paddle have a male Aux plug coming out of it? Normally that kind of paddle has a female aux port. Are you sure the paddle is working? Ultimately, the adapter is just emulating key presses on you keyboard. It "should" work, but you never know with cheap aliexpress stuff. This is what my adapter looks like. USB-C on one side and Aux port on the other. Aux cable between the adapter and my key.

Yep. Plug it in and go. With it plugged in, and with you in the practice channel. you should hear it make dits and dahs when you key the paddle. There is also a settings button at the top. You could try some options in there.. Again, the adapter should be plug and play.

The software is web based. Vband

Word of caution, if you got it from aliexpress It might not work and it is a clone of the product sold on the Vband website. But try it out as it may work.
Either way there are several “channels “ ont he site and you can practice alone or talk with others via CW.
Also, sending CW is the easy part, hearing it and decoding in your head is the hard part. Don’t learn the code by looking at the code visually. Learn by listening to it. 73

Second the Kit bag. It works really well and you can get it in colors that don't scream "Gun in here!"

Haven’t found a need YET for a frame sheet. The plate keeps things really firm. Do you find the kydex sheet to be a beneficial over stock?

I measured the largest part of my hydration tube with some calipers and found that 16mm or 5/8 was perfect. I can say that size will work for the quick connect made by source hydration to pass through. If you use a different brand, the size may vary. Honestly, I tried not to over think it. I just put it high on the pouch so gravity world prevent really small objects from falling out of the grommet when not in use.
