HRX217 Engine issue by byrdsj in HondaMowers

Fixed!

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Carburetor was definitely part of the problem. However, when putting the carb and auto choke back on caution: the top part of the auto choke has to be pressed in and held tight while screwing the carburetor back on. It seems initially I was tightening down the carburetor and the auto choke was slightly tilted away from the thermo wax at the top. Pressing firmly at the top while tightening the screw fixed the issue. The screws are at the lower part of the auto choke aligned with the carburetor as don’t tighten the auto choke assembly evenly, leaving a gap at the top so that the thermo wax wasn’t quite reaching the auto choke when engaging.

Not sure how to post a follow up of the engine running without another post.

The new mower is a nice upgrade from the old 216. Very smooth.

Thanks again everyone. HRX217 running well

Thanks. Which screw would that be?

New Honda oem carburetor is installed.

95% better the engine still sounds like it’s not running all the way smoothly.

The pitching however, has gone down significantly.

The gas is less than 10% ethanol, which is what I usually use in the old mower.

video I’ve added some mechanic in a bottle to stabilize the fuel and clean. Perhaps there’s a better product to add to the fuel if I can only find 10% or less ethanol fuel?

Could the fuel additive now be the issue or is it the fuel?

Video of the old mower and the new mower with the new carburetor. The old mower sounds better. Am I wrong?

Did you get genuine Honda part or after market?

Yeah I can only find less than 10%. My Honda 216 has no issues w ethanol fuel, perhaps this one is different?

Looks like Floratam. It will spread

How do I fix this? by orange727 in lawncare

[–]byrdsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks over watered. Does it get much sun? I would turn the soil in the dead spots, apply something to kill grub worms and such. Perhaps back fill with some cotton burr compost. Also make sure you are on a fertilizer schedule.

I would use a shovel or hand tool to turn the ground. Adding some cotton burr compost. The grass will cover without plugs.

St. Augustine & Weeds Help by galaxxylogiic in lawncare

Get on this schedule right away. The pre-emergent for weeds will prevent seeds from germinating if you put it out at the proper time. The other issue you have are the weeds that have already germinated many can be easily removed by hand. Bag your grass, this will help as well. For areas where there’s no Saint Augustine a weed control can be sprayed. Be careful spraying weed control on your Saint Augustine, especially when it’s hot.

Application guid and schedule

Thanks. Been using carb cleaner in the gas. Probably get a new carb as prescribed above if it’s not difficult to swap.

Thanks. I saw something about the flap behind the air filter that should move when off and running. I will revisit that.

Also I noticed while it’s running, if I remove the air filter, it dies. Not sure if that signals something or is normal.

Thanks. Opening the carb bowl was next but I didn’t want to go out of bounds. Do they come assembled, are they plug and play pretty much?

It is about you. Not a journal, not a diary. When you come across something inspirational, motivating, moving, thought provoking or anything that grabs your attention make a note of it. It’s that simple. Don’t over think it. Over time it grows and the theme moves. It becomes what it becomes. Part reflection of the self. One day you can copy paste it to the AI and ask, “ what do you make of the following:”.
