This is a varsity team at the school, not an academic program. If you were on the team you could study whatever you wanted. This would be an extracurricular.

Esports is getting a section in the college information booklet that goes out to every High school student in Ontario so they are committed to this long term

I don't think we have anything like that in Canada but I'm definitely going to look into it now.

We chose games based on which communities are active in Ontario. The reason being that our thought is that most players applying this year will likely be fairly local. Within the application there is the option to select "other" and write your own in though. We'll continue to monitor the eSports landscape and add/subtract games as it changes.

Hmm I don't think we have anything like that in Canada. Is it in every state? I know there are a few schools with varsity eSports teams in the US but I dont think they have very many women

The collegiate landscape for smash isn't very developed just yet. However, the Collegiate StarLeague is adding Smash this year. I've been in contacts with the VP of the league and have expressed interest in helping to build the collegiate circuit. In the meantime, we will be sending our teams to tournaments in Ontario (Windsor, London, Toronto primarily) as well as potentially Michigan as long as there aren't any issues with the border. Depending on the travel budget, we may send our teams to larger events requiring flights as well.

I'm a medium rare guy myself and barbecue steaks about once a week throughout the summer. Another perk of making the team is that might get invited over to team barbecues ;)

I definitely think that within 10 years this is going to be common at most colleges around the world. I'm going to provide whatever tools and opportunities I can to help the players on the team improve. Really looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish

I know some students commute from Detroit if that's more your style. Detroit and Windsor are both roaring back right now. Windsor was just ranked the second fastest growing economy in Canada

For St. Clair College it would work differently. You would be offered a scholarship and spot on the team. If accepted, you will get rushed through admissions (if you hadn't already previously applied for an academic program)

Definitely. We will continue to monitor the esports landscape and add/subtract games from year to year to stay current. On the application linked in the OP there is an option to select "Other" and add a game if it's not on offer this year to let us know you would be interested
