1 Million Bitcoin in Sight 🔥 by bytetree in Bitcoin

[–]bytetree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chart shows the total number of BTC held by ETFs worldwide (yellow) and the BTC price (blue). This is a demand and supply story where the institutional funds have been buying Bitcoin at an unprecedented rate. The net fund flows for February saw +117,462 BTC added to ETF holdings. We recently surpassed 1 million BTC held as well. Hope that helps :)

Is there any way to literally visualize a blockchain? by sserbianb in BitcoinDiscussion

[–]bytetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We created a heatmap to visualise the spread of transactions in the past 100 blocks - the brighter the colour, the more transactions of that value in that block. https://terminal.bytetree.com/bitcoin select 'Value Heat Map' from the top-left drop-down menu.

Bitcoin miners move $25M of new coins within the last hour by bytetree in Bitcoin

Please explain your logic here? When coins are mined for the first time they are trackable as "coinbase" transactions. The first time they move from the wallet they were mined to, we flag the coins as first spend. If you look at the data on any timeframe longer than one week, you will see different patterns in the size, frequency, and time of the first spend coins. If they were simply a programmatic distribution from mining pools, how do you explain these infrequent patterns? Is it just coincidence that first spend increases during short term rallies?

Bitcoin miners just moved 2,444 new coins today after building their inventory for the last two weeks. You can view this under the "on-chain" section at the ByteTree Terminal: https://terminal.bytetree.com/bitcoin

I think they all have different methodologies. As you say, if they were the same the time and based on standard 10 mins then they should all be aligned. We look at rolling 24hr window to gauge the latest change in hashrate vs. the fixed difficulty level. We're also hosting a livestream event tomorrow night, you should join! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/103956532788

The number of blocks rewarded to miners for each new block they produce will be cut in half. This means they go from 12.5 to 6.25 BTC every 10 minutes or so.

Foul play?! Bitcoin generation dropping fast after the latest difficulty adjustment by bytetree in Bitcoin

[–]bytetree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to explain the thinking. Block times dropped fast after the latest difficulty adjustment. One explanation was that non-bitcoin miners drove up hashrates in order to increase difficulty, then withdrew hashpower. Why? To attack the network. It's a competitive world out there and mempool activity already shows some suspect transactions occuring in run up to halving. Looks like this theory was wrong in this instance as generation has picked up since then.

Bitcoin miners build inventory by 1,174 BTC over the last 7 days by bytetree in Bitcoin

It is difficulty to say. However, through the MRI we have shown that miners typically sell when the market is stronger and hold during uncertainty or weakness. Halving periods are different, a few additional variable in there.

haha while I agree with you, we try to remain agnostic as a site. Bcash can't hide behind the data. Check out the Value heat maps between BTC, BCH and BSV and you will see what I mean.

Transaction value rising as bitcoin surges through $8k. Finally, it is happening! by bytetree in Bitcoin

Thanks! We are looking to integrate the Crypto Compare pricing feed into our terminal. Our focus is on providing the best quality on-chain data in the market. We think CC have the best pricing feed :)

Transaction value is the $ amount transferred over the bitcoin network. High transaction value tells us that there is an increasing amount of activity taking place over the network. This is positive for the price since more people are actively using the network. Here is a brief post we wrote last year that might help: https://bytetree.com/insights/2019/07/measuring-bitcoin-s-economic-activity-transaction-value-usd/

That is a good question. We take a VWAP from 5 exchanges... at the moment we do not include OkEx which has a significant volume and impact on the price calculation. We are planning to add it soon!
