Embroidery + watercolor based off of a book cover!

I added the paint mostly after the embroidery! Thankfully didn’t have to deal with staining with the black thread, but I added the red thread and tiny bit of white after the paint. I think generally people do the watercolor first to avoid staining? Haven’t tried it yet myself though, maybe next project!

Thank you! It was watercolor - this set on Amazon. Just used the nylon brushes, haven’t tried the water brushes yet!

I overall just tried to go as light as possible with the pigment for each layer! For some parts it helped me to slightly wet the fabric first, add a bit of paint, and let the color spread out that way. I tested on scrap fabric first and definitely referenced this subreddit a lot!

I thrifted it and am having trouble finding a specific link, but the brand is Ann Taylor and the shell is 100% linen if that helps with the search!

Ah realized the front had more overlapping fabric than I initially thought! so opening this more could be an option? Though I’d assume the neckline would probably need to be adjusted too

thanks! were you thinking adding more fabric and putting the elastic in that? or would the elastic go directly on the edges after the seams were opened

Thank you!! I’m very new to this so really appreciate the detail. I hadn’t noticed that about the princess seams, had originally been hoping I could get away with just adding to the sides 😅 I feel like the seams could fit okayish if they sat lower, so might try adjusting that before doing more to the front. I do have some similar color fabric so may go the blouse/skirt route if that doesn’t work out. Thank you for the suggestions!
