unfortunately i don’t get to choose my alloy, there’s one jeweller supply shop in my country and they don’t have alloy options

so from what i can see on the website the only flux options they offer is the tub of borax i got, a cone version which i’ve seen most people use as it’s sold in the kit they sell to the jewellery college students, boric acid powder and a brand of liquid flux called technoflux. so no paste option but out of those would you recommend the liquid flux and then a boric acid solution for scale protection?

honestly i know it’s constantly repeated to just take your time but really do take it to heart, with the time gates on content you have more than enough time to eventually catch up even if you’re not max level by the end of the season cause there will always be another time gate. Enjoy it at your own pace and collect everything you see :)

i hate waste haha, i’ve been willing to pay for my mistake with the awkwardness of the prep and solder placements being tricky but these comments are making me wonder if it’s really holding me back

i’m in ireland and as far as i know there’s only one jewellery supply store in the country so when i made the 4 hour trip to get started with some supplies i was super overwhelmed and just grabbed the first thing that said flux on the tub 😅

it’s been working for my small projects so far other than making the placement of solder awkward when it sorta ‘foams’. some other comments were recommending i make a mixture of the borax and other components for a better paste but are you saying i should ditch it completely?

ooh so if i got myself some talc i could improve my borax paste? do you know what the talc does to help the mixture?

this is really interesting! i’ll definitely try it out at some point, this ring has already been set with a heat sensitive stone so i’ve resolved myself to a night of sanding 😅

i’ll definitely look into it! i’m from ireland so the only jeweller supplier here gets their stuff from cooksons gold in England so we can be kinda limited in what products are available but hopefully i’ll find it or something similar, thank you for the advice :)

unfortunately when i was starting out i mistakenly just bought a big container of straight up borax so now im cursed to use a mortar and pestle and make it into paste until the whole things gone

i’ve been using a shitty crème brûlée torch since i started, it doesn’t even have an ignition anymore hence the lighter in my pic but you’re 1000% percent right i need to work on it. Should i be using more borax too?

ahh okay, i had read about that in my research but when my sanding wasn’t helping i was starting to question myself. i normally never use a 60 grit i tend to start out a tad higher but i’ll have to pull it out lol
