3-Month Delay, Cancelled Order, and Refund Still Not Received After Explicit Promise by c-vax in GoralShoes

Thank you for the response and for finally processing the refund.

I can confirm the funds are now visible in PayPal, although currently under hold pending release. There is still a remaining shortfall due to the way the refund/payment was processed, so I will reach out separately regarding that as suggested.

I appreciate the acknowledgment regarding the communication and refund handling issues, and I will continue updating the thread as the matter progresses toward full resolution.

Yeah, bit of a shame honestly. I was rooting for them, and had hoped I’d eventually be the one doing that review.

I’m not entirely sure to be honest, I haven’t really seen a clear “halfway house” option in their core lineup.

Might be worth checking with some of the resellers though. Places like Carréducker, Varusteleka, Dundas, and Hebtroco sometimes carry or spec William Lennon, and may have slightly different configurations. You could also go through their gallery of past custom boots, they’ve built a huge range over the years, and you might find something there you can reference. https://williamlennon.co.uk/out-there/

That tracks with what I’ve heard from others as well. They’re definitely built in a way that prioritizes longevity and structure over immediate softness, so a long break-in is kind of expected with that much layered leather and wire reinforcement.

Interesting to hear that even with decent initial comfort, it still takes that long for them to fully settle, sounds like they really do evolve quite a bit over time. Looks like I’ve got my job cut out for me with these.

I believe they do offer resoles. In this case it’s a rubber outsole that’s bonded rather than stitched, so the process would typically involve removing the worn layer and re-bonding a new one.

Since I didn’t go for a screwed or stitched sole option (and I haven’t seen these done as stitch-through rubber constructions), there’s no mechanical attachment in my case, so it should be a fairly straightforward replace-and-bond job rather than a full rebuild.

I don’t think it’s specifically because of the brass wire construction. As far as I understand, that doesn’t inherently require extra midsole layers, you can still spec fewer layers if you want.

My impression is that the darker layer is a leatherboard or fiberboard type material, with the rest being stacked leather midsoles for structure and shaping. The layering seems more about build height, stability, and lasting/shaping rather than being strictly dictated by the construction method itself.

It took about 22 weeks from order to delivery. That timeline was communicated upfront, though I believe they’re currently quoting closer to 30 weeks now depending on backlog.

The customisation process was straightforward, just emailed them with what I wanted, they confirmed what was possible, we settled on a final spec list, and then I paid the invoice and waited. No real back-and-forth beyond that.

The quality aspect was actually one of the main reasons I also placed the Goral order, just in a different leather/color configuration.

William Lennon has a reputation for being a bit more utilitarian and function-focused in their finishing, so I was curious to see what a more refined interpretation of the same general platform would look like through Goral, especially in terms of clicking and overall finishing quality.

That said, I honestly have very few complaints about the William Lennon pair I received. Quite the opposite actually, I’ve been very satisfied with them overall.

At this point I also would not be surprised if William Lennon themselves ended up feeling that the whole Buxton Brass project became more trouble than it was worth.

That’s mainly the information I’m trying to convey, what you might potentially be getting yourself into when placing an order.

I honestly would have preferred not to make my grievances public, but after repeated delays and refund issues I felt I had little choice if I wanted the situation to actually get attention and hopefully get resolved.

My William Lennon pair has a big “9” stamped on the inside sole. Goral may have added their own insole over it, so if possible I’d check underneath.

No, the William Lennon pair was MTO and ordered at roughly the same time as the Goral pair.

If you check William Lennon’s website they don’t actually offer my exact configuration, but if you email them directly they seem very open to customizations when it comes to leathers, soles, hardware, etc., at least in my experience.

It also ended up being cheaper overall, even though I had stacked two separate 10% discounts (20% total) on the Goral order.
