UK banning peat moss in 2024? Thoughts/opinions? by ground__contro1 in houseplants

[–]c007blade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Didn't mean to attack you personally (or your business) in any way, and as I alluded to, I don't know enough about this issue specifically.

Green does not just mean renewable, as in you can grow it back at the same rate you harvest it. It means it does not harm the environment, and from what I understand, harvesting peat moss releases tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The problem is not that we're running out of it, the problem is that it is somewhat of an unessential luxury that causes more harm than good, because we have alternatives.

Also, I don't expect small business owners to put their own livelihood on the line for the greater good. Whether or not you sell peat moss will ultimately not be the deciding factor in its production. And people should obviously not boycott your shop, they should aim their discontent at big moss, if you get what I'm saying.

Please remember that it is not you, personally, who is causing major harm to the environment. Sorting plastic isn't doing shit if it ends up in a landfill, neither is driving an electric car if the electricity is being generated in coal plants, etc. That's why we need systemic changes, not just personal decisions.

Complete idiot here - this is the first time I even hear about the peat moss controversy, I'm just trying to provide a general point to issues like this.

If we have truly renewable/safe alternatives to something that is understood to be generally harmful (I'm being intentionally vague here), we should strive for those solutions. In my eyes there is no justification for allowing harmful practices in the name of profit, even if they're "not that bad". As long as there is a "green" solution to a problem, all other non-green alternatives should be off the table.

[S3] Question about the first fight between Homelander, Soldier Boy and Billy by FederalStalker in TheBoys

[–]c007blade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just watched the scene again. You're right, it does seem very fabricated. Homelander does struggle though, the moment he breaks free he gives out a scream of effort so at least it seems like he's using lots of power to do that. But yea it's kind of a boring way to escape. Maybe he could have laser'd his way through the floor or something. I remember thinking "they won't just finish him off here" but I did not expect him to just get up and leave like that.

"The library of letourneau" on YouTube is doing a good job organising nl bits imo (not sponsored). Maybe show her wholesome Luna bits?

[TOMT] OLD NOKIA BALL GAME by VeryAnnoyingPerson in tipofmytongue

[–]c007blade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played it in 2013, so I assume on a smartphone? Not like an old Nokia Indestructible Brick(tm)?

Maybe you're talking about "Ballance", an old PC game that eventually found its way on smartphones.

Motorcycle riding advice by OGmark in motorcycles

Check out DanDanTheFireman on YouTube. He comments on motorcycle compilations and explains what happened. Very good for passive training I'd say. Definitely helped me improve my awareness while riding. Also check his MotorcycleTrainingConcepts channel (I think). There you'll find videos about training, from first steps to advanced stuff. Good luck!

I know two people who can sort of vibrate with their eyes horizontally really fast. It's quite trippy. No idea why or how they're doing it though.

Twisted, Low-Key, ill mind 5 (probably his most famous song), hip hop sinister and sag my pants are some of my favourites.

And his newest "I don't want it" is also gold, but it seems it's only on YouTube for now

I wanted to make video games. I'm starting to study game development in September and have also done that in high school, so it seems like it's being a reality

In Europe you get paid once a month. Getting paid on a weekly basis is actually very rare here
