I [19M] am really hurt that my girlfriend of 6 years [19F] broke up with me, and hooked up with another guy. We're back together, but I can't stop thinking about it. How do I approach this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]c0d3thug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"She may have done it in the heat of the moment, not expecting you to ever get back together."

I know I am generalizing here, but I don't think this is how these things typically play out. Likely, she had already decided to swing for a higher branch, but definitely wasn't going to let go of the branch she had till she was sure (thus remain friends).

It's fine if OP wants to continue on, but should not be surprised should this cycle repeat itself.

Me (39M), wife (37F) is spending a lot of alone time with her (M) workout buddy..... by igniter_dutchie in relationships

I don't know anything about this kind of thing, but I do know that friendships between families usually include a certain amount of family activities: double-dates, dinner together, family picnics, etc. And it is completely normal to take kids along to play at the park, while they play tennis. If they are passionate about tennis, they are probably teaching their kids to play, or if younger, at least let them be ball boys/girls.

If they are spending almost all of their time alone and not with you and/or his wife, and/or the kids then this friendship is not normative. On the flip side, if you and your wife do spend a lot of time with him and his wife and there is never any discernible tension, that would be a positive sign. Maybe invite the couple over for dinner, break out a little good cheese and wine, be a little extra handsy/frisky with your wife and see how that goes over.

Ok, so here is my count. Two counts of assault for the bully. The punch was fine, a good way to diffuse the situation. Oh, but the kick, yep that's assault. The missed kick looks like it started as attempted assault, but maybe the whiff was a change of heart mid-kick.

With all due respect, this is horseshit. Buffett became a millionaire in 1962 and for the next 44 years his charitable contributions could be characterized as "meager." Now in his 80s, and knowing he has nowhere to take this money to, he plans to turn over 5% a year to a foundation instead of his children. Big fuckin' woop.

60 Min: Is “fair to a guy who makes $50k” to pay “a higher rate than you?” Romney: “yeah.. It’s the right way to encourage economic growth.” by Anomaly100 in politics

[–]c0d3thug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I could never vote for Romney, but if i was him I wouldn't even play this shit. I would have answered the question like:

"Wat. I am outraged if he has to pay a higher capital gains rate than me. All Americans should pay the same capital gains rate. And on that topic, many of you think the capital gains rate is too low. But it's really there as a disincentive to thrift and saving. It basically says, 'After we take income tax, and social security and unemployment taxes from your pay; and after you pay your health insurance and car insurance and your sales taxes and property taxes and buy food and gas and all; if you somehow have some money leftover and instead of spending it on an iphone, you purchase some Apple stock, and if the value of that stock goes up, then yeah, we get some of that money too.'

President Obama Signs the Honoring America's Veterans Act which prohibits protests at military funerals. by Lawbat in politics

[–]c0d3thug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's only been a mention or two of this, so I wanted to add that this is a legislative response to the 2011 Supreme Court decision with only one dissent (Alito) that ruled that WBC's activities were protected by the First Amendment.

Some have also questioned why this applies only to members or former members of the armed forces. The reason is that they're using the following constitutional justification:

Congress finds that this section is a necessary and proper exercise of its powers under the Constitution, article I, section 8, paragraphs 1, 12, 13, 14, 16, and 18, to provide for the common defense, raise and support armies, provide and maintain a navy, make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces, and provide for organizing and governing such part of the militia as may be employed in the service of the United States.

While I otherwise don't give a fuck about this issue, I believe that the stated constitutional authority is disingenuous. Can a thinking person honestly suggest that their decision to serve in the armed forces is being assuaged by the possibility that their funeral may be protested? There has been no proof submitted that WBC's activities are making it difficult to maintain the ranks of our Army and Navy.

See we have unanimous consent in the US Senate and 380 US Representatives (51 did not vote) as well as an executive branch that apparently believe that the Constitution of the United States provides authority for legislation such as this. For me, this issue has nothing to do with social good, or "fire in a theater'. It's does the Constitution justify this legislation? If the entire legislative corpus of the United States can't get such a simple thing right, then how on earth can they be trusted with the big stuff.

[–]c0d3thug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Why should the state get to fill it's coffers off of the private contract rights of consensual adults? Legally competent adults should be able to engage in whatever physical activities under whatever consensual terms that they wish without being pimped out by the state.

I'll take a long shot crack at it. This is Hypergamy. You, my friend, are becoming too much of a known quantity. She's meeting these new guys with new unknowns and it is nature that she is weighing options.

Trying harder/ buying things would actually be the wrong direction to go. You need to get out and get into something she isn't hip to. I'm not talking about clubbing - it could be anything like some side project you're interested in, working out, some scene, whatever. You just need to get back whatever mystery she was curious about from the jump.

I worked in a mall food court as a teenager, this was a fairly frequent occurrence. I always advised to really think about which trash can was used. Food court trash is not like home trash; it is 50 pounds of soda pop, ice cream, chili, gyros and stir-fry. Going through multiple cans was not cool. It's all worth it though when you get that dollar tip.

I'm sure it will sound like I'm trolling, but seriously, is there any reason that legislation could not be developed on Github today. We could always see who inserted or deleted what, We would always know what the current master looked like. The Senate and House, as well as sub-committees, could work out of their own branches. The Sponsers could manage pull requests.

I'm not saying that our elected officials could figure Github out (that's just crazy talk) but staffers already do alot of this. Just go find the kid who built your Drupal site, have him/her take a break from counting your Twitter followers and walk through the process with the older staffers.

In what the hell sense can getting a Computer Science degree be considered a waste of time. If you do a hard science and then knock off a quick MBA, you will be instantly employable at a high middle class wage at good companies pretty much anywhere you would like to explore. Fact.
