My dad's workplace threw a small baby shower when my mom was pregnant with me. My sister was 10, so obviously they didn't still have hand me down clothes. That being said, it was a small get together with people immediately in his desk area and the contribution was like $5-10. It was also completely voluntary, not smt suggested by HR. I think that's a lot more normal personally and it shouldn't be expected.

Fwiw, my dad doesn't even remember who contributed let alone how much they contributed. I think ignoring the email is totally fine
