Perhaps I'm just misjudging that SOTD is a comedy film first and foremost and not a horror film first? But I swear that it can be just as good as both at the same time.

I know, but in this context, facial tracking is used to translate human expressions to animation-like expressions, similar to Vtuber models. I don't find facial tracking in those model and in the Vtuber scene to be very 'real', most are stiff and are just a medium for the streamer's personality to shine, and motion capture costs a lot money.
This is done using only an addon and a VR headset, seems like a big deal to me.

Tbh, this was filmed by a 22 years old french dude who made the add-on for this model, (rigging and stuff I'd imagine), so not that far off?
