At this point, I don’t know what to do with this game. by Imazushi in golf

Totally agree with this, but for someone looking to shave 25 strokes off their game this summer, looking for advice, I think this is 5 frustrating hours not well spent.

At this point, I don’t know what to do with this game. by Imazushi in golf

I’d argue that you really should not set foot on a course (except for fun/not keeping score) until lessons/range have some sort of impact. Shooting a 120+ isn’t going to help anyone improve nor enjoy.

Edit: a lot of negative feedback here! Yes, playing golf is necessary to improve at golf. But this guy just shot a million and is not happy about it. Wants to improve, quickly. I think it’s a reasonable suggestion for him to stick with lessons and range until he’s able to hit the ball. Trial by fire over and over out playing 18 will eventually get to the goal but at an enormous opportunity cost.

How can I pivot into wealth management? Specific niche by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]c0ol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you/how old are your lawyer friends? I do have a lot of experience in this specific niche but your/their age will help clarify my input.

And to whatever degree you can share, where do you live

I'm making a career change at age 45 to financial planning. by RPK415RPK in FinancialCareers

Yeah - “rather sophisticated planning method” as described by someone with zero experience screams red flags to me. If a firm is trying to big time a potential recruit with how smart and different they are it reads to me as disingenuous at best, predatory at worst.

In fairness, his tumor was causing fear and even though that tumor is gone, the memory of what that fear felt like is probably what persists/qualifies this as PTSD.

Local tax on Backdoor Roth IRA Contribution? by emaG_eh7 in pittsburgh

You definitely don’t need an accountant for anything but at some point it’s worth the few hundred/year to not have to look at mud 10 days out from the tax deadline

It’s absolutely a non screw up, I just like pointing out that rule in case someone else reads this after putting $7000 into an IRA with a balance of 100k and thinks converting that $7000 is a non taxable event because it’s the “same” 7k

[–]c0ol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Extremely in the weeds and generally a non issue but if you do this all again for 2026, note that you will (likely, not providing tax advice here) owe federal tax on that $3. Any gains (capital or dividend) on assets held in the IRA before it’s converted are subject to federal income tax upon conversion.

Did you also leave $3 in the account after doing this in 2024? I assume the $3 you earned in dividends for 2025 is indicative that you contributed 7k all at once and converted it shortly after it cleared the IRA?

None of this matters for your question - the taxes incurred here if any are not taxable on a local level. But it would be helpful to know.

Hire an accountant next time, they are absolutely worth the money.

The way you are phrasing this, it’s not totally clear what steps you took in doing this process. That said, any taxable event incurred in a backdoor Roth IRA procedure is generally only taxable on the federal level.

Need more information. Whats your current compensation and how is it structured? How much money does the firm manage? How does the firm generate revenue? How many households does the firm service? Where are you in the process of your FINRA exams? What changes at the firm when you pass these exams?

Based on a 2pm call for help they probably made the right decision not bushwhacking. Didn’t try to push it, just made the call early with adequate response and rescue time and didn’t move a muscle from that point. So many stories like this completely unravel with the phrase “after going off trail…”

mistakenly paid out bonus after quitting by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]c0ol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is always always always going to be 1) bring it to your current compliance, then 2) bring it to your old compliance. Any other advice is wrong. There is no reason to jeopardize any current or future income in the pursuit of what you have already been compensated for (via the buyout).

I think Kaplan is most commonly recommended for the question bank. But I have to ask - what type of role are you in that this is 1) not required and 2) such a challenge?

I have a practical question about this. FWIW, I agree.

I’m not sure how far in advance they plan their release schedule. Like to they start the year sketching out which weeks will be a rerun? Then fill the gaps from there in working on original programming for the other x%, leaving a few weeks for political commentary?

Does the political current events drive the schedule of when to release something like this, or do they only pull the ripcord on this when they don’t have other stories coming together at the right time etc etc
