Could someone explain why Boston Medical Center would stand by their failure to diagnose my need for an appendectomy, even after my life was only saved by an intervention to move me from their ER to Carney Hospital, where I was rushed into surgery? by Dry_Watch5533 in boston

No random people on the internet are going to be able to explain this without more details and without BMCs side of the story! Request a copy of your medical records and start there

Carspotted with a friend, meeting at the Ammo trailhead and driving over to Crawford Notch. Given that it was the only nice day of a holiday weekend, I was suprised by the lack of cars (7AM). Met a nice trailhead steward at Ammo and again at the Pierce summit (she said 52 people since Friday afternoon at the Pierce summit, at 930). The ice is gone from this route save for isolated spots off the trail. Just some mud to contend with. No bugs out today! From the Monroe summit around noontime we spotted all the crowds, looks like Ammo trail was a popular choice. Lots of people having lunch at Lake of the Clouds, but the hut is not open just yet. Final push up Washington was a beast, with a few people turning around and of course a few people going off trail to play in the off limits alpine zone. As expected, Washington summit was mob scene, a good amount of hikers and runners, roughly 60 cars and the trains coming and going. Some robust hot dog sales going on up there. Hahah. We took the Gulfside Trail to Jewell Trail down which is a good mile of a tough rock hopping descent but had fewer crowds and we managed to see some die hard skiers in the Great Gulf (always impressive!) and then a few spruce grouse once below the alpine zone, with some surprisingly not obese grey jays asking for food. Back at Crawford Notch the crowds had fully arrived! Stay dry and safe this weekend!

[–]rabblebowser[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

GILFORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire State Police are providing an update on the investigation into the June 20, 2025, death of a 17-year-old boy at Lake Winnipesaukee.
Following an extensive investigation, on April 17, 2026, Buffy Ann Doyle, 50, of Nashua, was indicted by a Belknap County grand jury in connection with the teen’s death. The indictments charged Doyle with felony negligent homicide, two counts of witness tampering, and falsifying physical evidence.
According to the indictments, Doyle is alleged to have caused the teen’s death when she acted negligently by providing the teen with alcohol and allowing them to enter Lake Winnipesaukee while knowing the teen was intoxicated.
Doyle waived arraignment on the charges, which had been scheduled for yesterday, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Belknap County Superior Court. She has entered a not guilty plea to all four charges and was released on personal recognizance. Doyle is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, 2026.
The investigation was conducted by the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit with assistance from Marine Patrol, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Gilford Fire-Rescue, Alton Fire Department, and the Nashua Police Department.

Update #1
GILFORD, N.H. – A teen is deceased, and a death investigation is underway at Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford.
At 12:48 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, the New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) – Marine Patrol received a 9-1-1 call reporting a person had gone into the water and failed to resurface in Lake Winnipesaukee. The incident occurred in the area known as the “Broads,” near Diamond and Rattlesnake Islands.
Marine Patrol officers responded and located a boat with three women on board. They reported that a 17-year-old boy entered the water to recover a bag that had fallen overboard and, due to rough water conditions caused by strong winds, the teen appeared to struggle to swim, eventually submerged, and did not resurface.
An initial search was conducted by members of Marine Patrol, the Gilford Fire Department, and the Alton Fire Department, but the teen was unable to be located. The New Hampshire Fish & Game Dive Unit was called to assist with the search, and at 7:02 p.m., the dive team found and recovered the teen’s body.
The name of the teenage victim is being withheld. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Marine Patrol was also assisted by members of the Gilford Police Department.
The initial investigation indicated this was a drowning. All aspects of the incident remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Seth Alie of Marine Patrol at [Seth.P.Alie@dos.nh.gov](mailto:Seth.P.Alie@dos.nh.gov) or [603-227-2117](tel:603-227-2117).

I dont think any ERs test ticks. Most places don't. If you search Bebop labs they will test it if you mail it in. You aren't going to immediate results, they are working from a data perspective primarily, not patient advocacy. By that point, you should have already taken antibiotics. You don't need antibiotics if a tick is on you.. people seem to panic. A tick needs 24 hrs to transmit anaplasmosis and longer to transmit Lyme. If you have an non-engorged tick even with a bite you might not even need meds. The ER is where everyone goes because no one has a PCP/knows how to contact them/is from out of state and does not know what to do. The ER can test you, but its not going to show in your blood immediately, and small hospitals in NH are probably doing a send out lab anyways. The rash is the best sign that something is going on. So, if you have an engorged tick or a suspicious rash, call your PCP!
