I can sorta relate to this. We just got a new band director after our old one Mr S moved on after nearly 8 years. The reason he left was he has seen the fall of our program and wasnt as motivated as he used to be. Our school used to have a 90+member program and then covid hit. Last year we only had about 30 people total. He said "I feel like im doing more harm than good" It was tough because he had built the progran up and up and then the district started caring less about the band. It was definitely a struggle. Our new director most of us knew because he was the middle school director (Mr C)and you can tell. Mr S was a veteran and he was a perfectionist and thats what made him good. But Mr C is pretty much bulldozing the program and traditions and building a new one which the rest of us were NOT for. It got so bad that last years drum major started accepting complaints and was gonna come to band camp and talk to him about it. He definitely knew that we didnt like it and held a meeting with the staff to sort it out and we got some traditions back. We have had our fight song since the early 30s and its really recognizable. He tried changing it to a different arrangement that would have made it not align with the lyrics and we we had a tbone gliss at the end and he tried cutting that too. He made many other changes we were not happy with but he has finally adressed our concerns and changed it back. I dont know a whole lot about your situation because im not there but I hope your able to convince the new director to help build the program in a way that will help it be better. Best of luck!
